Organic nosh, cold-pressed juices and freshly blended smoothies are arming Teneriffe locals for another sweltering summer in Brisbane.

You may have felt the prickle of warmer weather and basked in the extra sting of the sun this week – that’s a sure sign that summer is on its way. Fortunately for those living or working within trotting distance to Teneriffe, a sweet new pit-stop is offering nutrient-dense thirst-quenchers and healthy snacks. Taking up residence in a corner of the Commercial Road Antiques warehouse, Press’d is pouring drink-in or takeaway refreshments made from locally sourced organic fruit and vegetables, including a few surprising additions like sweet potato. Grab a cold-pressed juice such as the popular Teneriffe Sunrise of watermelon, pineapple, orange and lime, or The Cool Down featuring apple, pineapple, cucumber, lime and avocado, or fill up on a smoothie like the kale and spinach-packed Super Green or the Growler blend of banana, cacao nibs, cacao, almond milk and raw protein. Alternatively, dream up your own blend and throw in your choice of raw supplements or a spoonful of coconut oil. If you’re short of time, text your order ahead on 0412 592 657 and take your refresher away in a reusable glass bottle, which will then earn you a $1 discount on your next refill.

Perch in the morning sun at the open window or settle into a leather sofa, let the little ones amuse themselves in the kids’ play area and savour a cup of Toby’s Estate coffee with your choice of almond, Zymil, soy, skim or full cream milk. A condensed range of snacks and treats is currently available, but rest assured a full breakfast and lunch menu is on its way. Raw food chef Kisane Appleby has developed an ever-changing list of plant-based dishes, such as raw Italian pizza on a mixed-seed base topped with marinated vegetables and cashew cheese, plant-based tacos and red grapefruit, avocado and fennel salad. Bookend the feast with a slice of lavender and lemon ‘cheesecake’ or your pick of the vegan, dairy-, egg-, wheat- and gluten-free desserts on offer. Keep an eye on the Press’d Facebook page for details on an ‘uncooking’ class with Kisane next month.
