Dinner is sorted – Portside Wharf’s dining and shopping precinct is open for business
It’s no secret that some of our favourite spots to wine, dine and shop have temporarily closed their doors due to national COVID-19 restrictions. Fortunately, quite a lot of our choice locales to stop in for our morning coffee run, a shopping trip or dinner and drinks are still trading – they just look and operate a little differently. Hamilton hotspot Portside Wharf has adjusted to the current climate and is still open for business, with a number of the riverside precinct’s restaurants and retailers offering takeaway meals, one-on-one shopping appointments, phone orders, click-and-collect pick-up, online ordering and contactless delivery. Whether you need to tick some items off your weekly grocery list, pick up a cappuccino before tackling your workload or order some takeaway eats, make a pit-stop at Portside and support some local businesses.
Portside Wharf’s restaurants and cafes have modified their menus and added takeaway and delivery options so loyal customers can continue visiting – now with the added bonus of being able to enjoy the tasty eats and treats from the comfort of their own homes. If you’re craving a breakfast bite with your caffeine fix, grab a coffee and sweet treat from the Bou’s For Men takeaway window (and maybe get a fresh buzz while you’re there) or swing by Pineapple Express Cafe for a takeaway acai bowl or healthy vegan snack. There are plenty of lunch options, with Mexican eats from Burrito Bar Portside, meatball subs from Subway, mouth-watering burgers from Hello Harry and fresh sushi galore at Ginga. For a light lunch, make your way through the Crusiers Alfresco takeaway menu and try its famous chips with the secret-recipe seasoning (they are worth stopping in for!) or tuck into the sesame roast duck from Betong 888 Thai. Now, dinner might not be enjoyed with a waterfront view as usual (and if it is, lucky for you!), but that doesn’t mean the options are any less tempting. Aamaya Indian Restaurant is dishing up paneer curries, cheesy naan breads and homemade samosas, Bamboo Basket is serving melt-in-your-mouth roast pork alongside dumplings and pork buns, or keep the good times going with a heartwarming Italian feast from Gusto Da Gianni (being served from their sister kitchen) that the whole family can enjoy – maybe you can drop some over to Nonna too! Renowned Japanese restaurant Sono has just launched Sono to Go on Friday and Saturday evenings, with the new takeaway menu featuring the likes of sashimi platters, tonkatsu pork, wagyu sukiyaki and more. As if that wasn’t enough to tantalise your tastebuds, Byblos has also returned with a new takeaway menu filled with all of your Lebanese favourites. From Wednesday to Sunday you can enjoy the likes of traditional kebbi, batata harra potatoes and lahim meshwi lamb skewers – plus we hear takeaway cocktails are launching soon! If the couch just looks a little bit too comfy to leave, Portside Wharf’s restaurants and cafes offer delivery, through Uber Eats, Menulog and Deliveroo – so you can get your self-iso cuisine delivered straight to your door.
Portside Wharf’s retail stores are also still trading for both in-store and online patronage, so you can grab your essentials or treat yourself to a shopping spree. Stock up on some luxe loungewear at Costa Moda with its 50-percent-off sale online. Need some shoes to pair with your WFH outfit? Cassardi Shoe Studio is open Wednesday to Saturday with 25-percent off in-store styles or shop its range at the online e-boutique. If your clothing options are looking a bit lacklustre, Deer Sir has you covered with wardrobe staples aplenty and shopping appointments available upon request. You can also book a one-on-one appointment at Lieve Boutique to shop high-end women’s fashion labels, or stop in at Urbbana to browse its range of bespoke pants, shirts, suits and shoes.
Oenophiles can make an ‘essentials’ pit-stop at boutique bottle shop Sense of Taste, which boasts a wide selection of locally and internationally made spirits, wines and beers. If you’re missing the sounds of clicking cocktails over restaurant-quality charcuterie boards, you can also shop deli staples from the mini fromagerie to create a picture-perfect platter. IGA Portside Wharf is a convenient alternative to packed supermarkets and is well-stocked with all of your fresh produce and grocer needs. Plus contactless delivery on demand is a new addition for locals living in nearby apartments. If an at-home workout is on the cards, stretch out those limbs with the nimble folk from Studio Pilates, with instructors bringing their spirited pilates moves straight to your lounge room.
