Don a lei for Pop Productions’ Luau! feast
If the sweat beads sliding down your forehead haven’t forced you into a tropical state of mind, then the Pop Productions Hawaiian Luau! feast this Saturday most certainly will.
We’ll take any excuse to don a muumuu and feast on Fat Elvis pie, but when the goods have been prepared by the practised hands of the Pop Productions team, well, consider this our RSVP. The skilled cooks behind a bunch of festive pop-up spectaculars will be channelling a 1950s/60s summer beach vibe this weekend, with a Hawaiian-inspired Luau! kicking off in Herston from 4:30 pm. Don the optional Hawaiian shirt and grass skirt or board shorts, and set your appetite on barbecued beauties like tender kalua pork ribs, huli huli chicken, taro chips and more. Take our advice and wear a lei-turned-bib so you can mop up every last morsel.
The pop-up cooks have taken inspiration from the luau craze, which took off in backyards across America in the 1950s and 60s when servicemen returned home from the Pacific with a soft spot for the 50th state. Backyards were transformed into tropical oases as hosts served pitchers of mai tais and decadent desserts in pineapples. The Pop Productions feasting space will look equally festive, with smiling faces, scrumptious food, cool drinks and sweet tunes. The food will keep coming until sold out and the event is cash only. RSVP via Facebook.
