Pawpaw’s sister cafe Picnic opens in Camp Hill
The bright and breezy little sister of Pawpaw is bringing casual-cool to the suburbs.
As the light catches the front facade and the Martha Street breeze rolls in through yawning windows, there’s no place you’d rather be than Camp Hill’s Picnic. Nestled next to older sibling Mons Ban Sabai, the new southside hangout is the fourth Brisbane baby to join the Venzin Group, which also comprises Woolloongabba favourites Pawpaw and Green Papaya.
Picnic sashays from day-time cafe to late-night bistro with ease, swapping the Campos Coffee for a cocktail and the eggs benedict for lamb cutlets. Rory Doyle, the culinary wizard behind Red Robin Supper Club, has been pulled from the Pawpaw kitchen to fill the role of executive chef, crafting all-day breakfasts like the Picnic Board layered with house-roasted ham, avocado, eggs, toast, organic fetta and relish. Lunch sees open pork schnitzel and Wagyu burgers accompanied by thrice-cooked fries, while dinner brings meatball sliders and pan-fried kale with bacon to the Picnic tables.
Cool down with freshly pressed juices and imaginative refreshers like the piña colada green smoothie, or take advantage of the late-night licence with a cocktail jug to share. Live musicians will also join the Picnic on weekends.
