Pavement Whispers: Volume 70 May 3
From whispers of new late-night food markets to more ice-cream parlours, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
Mr Fitz’s Finest Ice Cream
Brisbane hospitality maestro Damian Griffiths is not one to rest on his laurels, proving yet again to be the busiest man on the local food scene. Following on from the success of Mister Fitz’s Finest Ice Cream in Fortitude Valley and South Bank, Damian Griffiths is set to bring his brand of gargantuan ice-cream sandwiches to East Brisbane, locking in a new location on 55 Lytton Road (as well as another location on the Gold Coast). While the opening date is being kept under wraps, there is talk of some sneaky new menu additions and some winter menu specials. Keep your eyes on The Weekend Edition for more details.
Josie North
Toowong residents, take note: a new coffee spot is coming your way. Josie North is the latest project from chef Matt Roggenkamp from The Single Guys, set to open in Clements Arcade on Sherwood Road (next to Genkotsu Ramen) at the end of May. With an interior designed by Woodster’s Oliver Burscough, Josie North will offer coffee roasted by popular Melbourne outfits Small Batch and Seven Seeds and will serve a menu of seasonal dishes for breakfast and lunch. Dine in and takeaway options will be available for the busy commuters and local workers.
Bella BBQ Bus
Since putting wheels to the road in early 2105, Bella BBQ has been making locals salivate over its brand of smoked meats and American-style flavours. Bella BBQ has recently announced a new development in the form of a mega barbecue bus. This gargantuan food mobile is a converted school bus, which is replacing the 45-year-old caravan that Bella BBQ has been operating from for the past year. The bus was stripped and converted into a fully equipped mobile kitchen with plenty of new gear, allowing for extra levels of barbecue production. To go with the new wheels, Bella BBQ has shaken up the menu and will be rolling it out in the coming weeks. Fries, wings and hot dogs will be available in addition to a refined selection of burgers served on soft and tasty milk buns. To up the ante, the Bella BBQ Bus has been kitted out with a 10000-watt sound system behind the middle doors and DJ decks up front. The icing on the cake is Bella BBQ’s own mobile app, which allows hungry patrons to track the buses movements similar to Domino’s pizza tracker – how good!
