Pavement Whispers: Volume 141 September 26

From whispers of late-night supper clubs to free ramen, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

The Palace Supper Club
Your late-night Valley options will no longer be restricted to greasy eats in the mall – The Palace Supper Club aims to bring a new level of sophistication to your after-hours cravings. Due to open this Thursday evening on Duncan Street in Chinatown, the restaurant and bar promises to create an oasis from the hustle and bustle of The Valley. Hospitality veteran Justinn De Beer will be leading the Palace team as general manager, with chef Joel Walker heading up the kitchen. The a la carte menu will feature contemporary Australian flavours, focusing on group dishes such as lobster, quail and crown rack of lamb. On the relaxed lounge and late-night supper menu you’ll find the likes of lobster rolls, steak frites, wagyu beef puffs and truffle fries – so long, 1:00 am kebab. Look out for all the details on The Palace Supper Club in this Thursday’s issue of The Weekend Edition.

Cali Eatery & Bar
Hawaiian-fusion seems to be sweeping the city of late and come October there’s set to be a new poke spot to sate your raw-fish cravings, just in time for summer. Cali Eatery & Bar is underway beside the Story Bridge Hotel in Kangaroo Point, bringing beachy vibes to the riverside suburb. The eatery will specialise in poke bowls, but will adopt slower more-relaxed approach to the concept. Tiki-inspired cocktails will add to the West Coast feel, with lauded mixologist Marco Nunes brought in to curate the drinks list. Tropical flavours of honeydew-melon juice and toasted-coconut falernum will feature on the menu, alongside caramel buttered espresso martinis on tap. Aloha.

Beyond the Pale
The first of the highly anticipated Coorparoo Square openings is almost complete. Beyond the Pale is set to open in mid-October, bringing craft beer and eats from breakfast through to dinner to the leafy suburb. The flagship tenancy will feature both indoor and outdoor dining, with the rustic design spilling out to a greenery-draped courtyard private dining area. Dramanti Coffee and takeaway eats will be served from the coffee window, or breakfast can be eaten in from 6:00 am each day. Gastropub-style mains such as wagyu cheeseburgers, crispy-skin salmon and eye fillet will feature on the lunch and dinner menu, while bar snacks such as spiced house pickles, chicken wings and mac’n’cheese nuggets will be on offer until late. The taps are set to showcase local breweries such as Stone & Wood, Newstead Brewing Co and Green Beacon, alongside the Beyond the Pale house lager.

Hakataya Ramen
Free. Ramen. Today. Need we say more? Well, we’re going to. Hakataya Ramen has just opened a new shop in Queen Street Mall and to celebrate the eatery is giving away free nagahama ramen from 12:00 pm today, Tuesday September 26. If you’ve got a hankering for that porky, noodley, soupy deliciousness we suggest you trot down there ASAP – the free ramen is only available until the soup runs out!
