Pavement Whispers: Vol 43 October 6

From whispers of new city bars to free dumplings, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Collective Kitchen & Bar
Brisbane City will be welcoming a new bar and eatery in the coming weeks, serving up food, wine, craft beers and coffee. Collective Kitchen & Bar is due to open on the corner of Ann and Wharf Streets in mid-October, with its indoor and alfresco dining areas looking out over Cathedral Square and St John’s Cathedral. The venue is a joint venture from James and Alisha Kelleher (formerly of Longrain Restaurant in Melbourne and jak+hill in Spring Hill) and Sunshine Coast chef Scott Price. Collective Kitchen & Bar will feature a seasonal share-style menu, with bites such as gourmet burgers, charcuterie boards, fresh sashimi and wood-grilled lamb shoulder. Look out on The Weekend Edition for more details soon.

Free dumplings at New Shanghai
The Myer Centre’s ever-popular restaurant New Shanghai will be dishing up free authentic Chinese bites for customers this coming Friday October 9 and Saturday October 10, and the following Friday and Saturday October 16 and 17, as part of the centre’s Elevate Your Style campaign. For a limited time between 3:00–4:00 pm on Friday and 4:00–5:00 pm on Saturday, customers can sample pork buns, dumplings and Chinese morsels such as slow-braised pork belly in Queen Street Mall near Albert Lane, completely free of charge. Yum!

Stones Corner Market
After a bit of a hiatus, the Stones Corner Market is coming back to Logan Road, kicking off on Sunday November 29 with a twilight Christmas market. The market will see the street closed to traffic to host more than 100 stallholders and their wares, including gifts, homewares, plants, toys, clothing, sweet treats, food and drinks. The street’s local bars and restaurants will also be open, plus there will be live entertainment, an appearance from Santa, and an interactive kids zone with a jumping castle, face painting and more.
