Pavement Whispers: Vol 46 October 27

From whispers of food trails to new Italian cafes, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Benzina
Kenmore pizza favourite Pizzeria Violetta has gained a little partner in crime, now opening in the mornings as Benzina. The espresso and sandwich bar is open seven days from 7:00–11:00 am only, and sticks to Pizzeria Violetta’s distinct Italian roots. Benzina is serving up piadina (Italian flatbreads) and panuozzi – sandwiches made with pizza dough bread, which will be baked in Pizzeria Violetta’s wood-fired oven each morning – alongside The Odyssey Project coffee and cold-pressed juices.

Metre Market
Brisbane will soon be welcoming another boutique market to its flourishing collection. Metre Market will bring together fashion, music, food, art and all-round good vibes, showcasing a carefully curated selection of wares from local up-and-coming designers, artists and makers. There will also be an opportunity for people to sell their pre-loved designer and vintage clothing – all you need to do is register for a metre (or two), hang up your garments and you’re all set to go. The first Metre Market should be before Christmas – look out on The Weekend Edition for more details soon.

Sunnybank $2 Food Trail
The self-guided Sunnybank $2 Food Trail is back again with a special summer edition, taking over Sunnybank Plaza and Sunny Park shopping centres on Saturday November 21. This instalment will see more than 30 local vendors serve up tasty $2 summer-inspired morsels, spanning a range of Asian cuisines such as Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean and Taiwanese. You’ll be able to graze on bites such as freshly made dim sum, chilled noodle salads and spicy barbecue dishes, while enjoying live music and entertainment from buskers, roaming characters and traditional lion dancers.

Melbourne Cup
We’re a week out from this year’s Melbourne Cup event, and whether or not you’re interested in the race, it’s a wonderful excuse to pack up the desk early and call it a day at about 1:00 pm. If you haven’t already decided where you’ll spend the afternoon wining and dining, have a browse through our comprehensive round-up of where to go – hopefully you can still nab a reservation!
