Pavement Whispers: Volume 98 November 15
From whispers of French bistros to mozzarella-themed menus, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
Greenglass
You may have noticed an unmarked door recently opened next to The Grosvenor on George Street in Brisbane City. There’s no need to proceed with caution as you curiously make your way up the stairs – what you’ll find at the top is the bright and breezy space of Greenglass. The eatery is the newest project from Cameron and Jordan Votan, the heroes that brought us Spring Hill’s Happy Boy. Greenglass quietly opened late last week, starting off with ‘long breakfast’ from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm Monday to Friday. The coming weeks will see the introduction of simple French bistro-style lunch and dinner, which will serve as a backdrop for the impressive wine selection – the true star of the venue. Greenglass has partnered with Cameron’s Spokenwine, which will offer diners a ‘visual wine list’ with more than 100 Australian wines on show. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition in the coming weeks – we will have full details when the entire restaurant opens in early December.
The Brunch Box
How wonderful is a bento box? There is something about compartmentalised food that makes it much more fun – each little section is like a new course. But sadly, you can only enjoy the bento box joy when you’re in the mood for Japanese food … until now. Enter The Brunch Box, the latest venture from the brains behind NoHo Bar & Grill in Wilston. The cafe will specialise in bento-style boxes, which will come with a freshly made sandwich (think turkey and cranberry baguettes and Cubano sandwiches), some fruit and a bite-sized home-baked dessert to sate post-lunch sweet cravings. The Brunch Box will also serve a la carte breakfast and lunch, home-baked treats, fresh salads and sandwiches, and offer catering. Doors will open to the public in Milton in January – we’ll have more details soon!
GourmetBar
The bottom end of Spring Hill continues to grow, with GourmetBar set to open beneath the Novotel Brisbane in mid December. The relaxed eatery will transform as each day progresses, presenting a different meal offering and layout for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper respectively. GourmetBar will focus its menu around set themes, including burgers, pasta, tapas, home-style desserts and mozzarella. Yep, mozzarella gets its own dedicated theme. Needless to say we’re very interested.
