Pavement Whispers: Volume 148 November 14

From whispers of laneway pop-ups to bars on wheels, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Allpress Espresso
If you go out of your way to seek out cafes serving Allpress Espresso, you had best mark Monday November 20 in your diary. The New Zealand-born roaster is opening its first stand-alone Brisbane space in East Brisbane, and it’s going to be much more than simply a cafe. Allpress Espresso will be open Monday to Friday serving coffee, breakfast and lunch, but will also include a training area, a technical workshop to service and work on La Marzocco espresso machinery, and a production space for picking and packing coffee. Espresso-based coffee will be served on Allpress’ signature Carmelo blend, while filter coffee will be offered as a blend, a rotating single origin or limited-edition blend – the berry and spice-flavoured Christmas blend will launch in time with the store opening. The simple food menu will complement the coffee, with bites including eggs and soldiers, signature sandwiches, and an Italian-inspired mixed plate of toast, tomato, provolone, boiled egg, avocado and trout or prosciutto. Bakery Lane Pop-ups
We know it’s a little daunting to be thinking about Christmas already, but can’t you feel that festivity in the air? There’s only about six weeks until the big day and to help you with your unique gift seeking, Bakery Lane is hosting a series of pop-ups each week from November 14 to December 23. You can shop Sundholm Style’s chic minimalist linen designs from November 14–21, Nikke Horrigan’s luxury men’s streetwear from November 22–29, and eco-friendly bamboo pieces (with a bunch of other rad benefits) from The Great Beyond from November 30 to December 7. Felicity Cooney will be showcasing her vibrant leather bags, sandals and accessories from December 8–15, and last (but definitely not least) aster + lilou’s summery clothes, swimwear, jewellery and accessories will pop-up from December 16–23.

Little Noodle Big Broth
Not one to rest on his laurels, The Brunswick Project’s Jimmy Williams has a new venture in the works. Little Noodle Big Broth is set to launch next Wednesday November 22 – a delivery-only New Farm-based Vietnamese concept through Deliveroo and UberEATS. Chef Jeff Lisle has crafted a menu that gives traditional recipes a modern touch, including a selection of vegetarian and vegan-friendly eats. Little Noodle Big Broth will serve dinner from 5:00–10:00 pm seven days, with dishes including pho of rare beef, poached chicken or mushroom, rice paper rolls, vermicelli salads, and spring rolls filled with pork mince or pulled jackfruit.

Montrachet Champagne Laneway
Bowen Hills’ Machinery Street is set to be transformed into a Parisian-inspired cobblestoned laneway this December to welcome the arrival or Montrachet to the King Street precinct. Montrachet Champagne Laneway will take over the street on Saturday December 9, inviting 200 guests to indulge in a brunch of premium French champagne, authentic artisan pastries and delectable canapes. Tickets include a glass of NV Louis Roederer Brut Premier on arrival, plus a selection of almond croissants, coffee eclairs, double-smoked ham cruffins and filled crisp baguettes from Montrachet’s soon-to-open boulangerie. The Dispense Station
Hospitality legend and bartender extraordinaire Perry Scott is offering Brisbane something a little different to his past projects – this time, it’s a bar on wheels. The Dispense Station is popping up at a number of events around town, rolling in to amp up the party. The mobile bar has already been a hit at a number of major events, including Falls Festival, and can cater anything from large corporate events with beers and cocktails on tap, to classic backyard box socials with hand-crafted cocktails and wines.
