Hudson Brewing
Brisbane’s bayside will soon score a craft-beer brewery of its own when Hudson Brewing opens the doors to its production facility and taproom in Wynnum this December. The brainchild of Richard Hudson, the newest entrant to Brisbane’s burgeoning brewing scene is taking shape in the heart of an industrial estate on Gibbs Street. With help from his wife Sarah and blue heeler Magoo, Richard is looking to build Hudson Brewing into an unpretentious oasis for craft-beer lovers. At maximum output, the full-scale production brewery is expected to reach an estimated 200,000 litres of beer per year, though Richard is eager to gently scale up capacity depending on demand surrounding tours, tastings and events. Hudson Brewing’s 50-seater taproom will boast four beers on tap, including a pale ale, IPA, lager and session ale, while a seasonal release sour will also be brewed to celebrate the opening. Rotating food trucks will park at Hudson Brewing every Friday and Saturday, helping hop heads line their stomach with tasty street eats. Yums! Chicken
Got a cluckin’ huge hankering for some crispy chicken? If you don’t now, you will soon – especially after reading what Yums! Chicken is bringing to Woolloongabba this weekend. The new fast-casual concept is looking to deliver a Shake Shack-inspired take on chicken with its first location, which is opening at the base of the Eastwood Apartments on Logan Road this Saturday November 14. Here cooked chook will take centre stage across a range of five burgers (original crispy, spicy, bacon and cheddar, grilled and buffalo style – all served on soft potato buns), four kinds of chicken wings (available in half-kilo and kilo serves) and chicken tenders, bolstered by the likes of fries (including sweet-potato fries and loaded fries), indulgent shakes (a dozen flavours) and a collection of beers. The 104-sqm venue will feature live sports televised on two huge TVs, while a playlist of contemporary tunes will keep the vibe on point. Sunroom
Creative hub Newstead Studios is about to welcome another ray of sunshine to its light-filled space – cafe and retail store Sunroom. Newstead Studios owners Cass and Sam Thies have taken over the nook previously occupied by Loaded Food Co. to launch their own project within the converted warehouse space, supporting local makers and brands through the new cafe and store. In addition to serving Blacklab specialty coffee, daily fresh pastries, gourmet sandwiches and bagels, Sunroom will stock a selection of books, homewares, fragrances and prints personally curated by Cass and Sam. All of the brands stocked are Australian, half of which have been weaved into the Newstead Studios journey in some way – whether through a product launch, creative workshop or photo shoot within light-drenched space. Sunroom is due to open tomorrow, Wednesday November 11, and is giving away free coffees this Friday November 13 and Saturday November 14 to celebrate. Drink Queensland Cellar Door Festival
The John Reid Pavilion at the RNA Showgrounds will become the epicentre of Queensland’s wine industry this Saturday November 14 when 20 of the state’s top wineries gather for the Drink Queensland Cellar Door Festival. The event – the first and biggest one-day festival of its kind in Queensland – will be showcasing primo plonk from the Sunshine State’s flourishing wine regions, including the Granite Belt, Scenic Rim and South Burnett. Winemakers from some of Queensland’s esteemed wineries including Gerler Wines, Ridgemill Estate, Golden Grove Estate, La Petite Mort, Hidden Creek, Symphony Hill, Sirromet Wines, Balancing Heart and more will be in attendance, with a smorgasbord of varieties available to sample and purchase. The festival will be broken up into a day session and a night session, with ticket holders given access to the Drink Queensland Bar (which will be amply stocked with local beer and wine), while food trucks sling tasty fare and DJs keep the atmosphere lively all day.
