Pavement Whispers: Vol 21 May 5

From whispers of soup carts to espresso bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Chapter IV
Paddington welcomed a new face over the weekend, as Chapter IV opened in the space left by Dirty South on Latrobe Terrace. Currently operating as a daytime cafe, dishing up breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, the venue will stay open later for tapas from June. Grab a seat on the verandah to soak up the gorgeous view while sipping on Campos Coffee and feasting on dishes like freshly baked organic maple-cured bacon and gruyere quiche, or truffled roasted field mushrooms on sourdough with rocket, fetta and cherry tomatoes.

Chocolate Orange on Latrobe
Two-and-a-half years ago, mother-and-daughter team Anastasia Morris and Naomi O’Kearney opened Chocolate Orange Espresso in Bardon. Due to plans to demolish the premises in September, Anastasia and Naomi have decided to open a new location on Latrobe Terrace in Paddington. Chocolate Orange on Latrobe boasts a kitchen four times the size of its Bardon counterpart and will continue the vision of home-style cooking with wholesome ingredients. Damien Pfeffer has come on board as head chef and will be expanding the menu to include new salad and side options, with more to come. Chocolate Orange Espresso will remain open to serve coffee and snacks from 6:00–9:30 am weekdays until September, while Chocolate Orange on Latrobe is set to open this Saturday May 9 from 12:00 pm.

Hey Junior Espresso
The countdown has begun for northside residents craving a quality coffee fix. Set to fling open its doors on Monday May 18 in Northgate, Hey Junior Espresso will be pouring Baxter & Sons coffee and dishing up quick bites for busy worker bees and local commuters. Grab breakfast and lunch on the run Monday through to Saturday.

PJ’s Steaks
PJ’s Steaks has called West End home for more than two years and has become a local favourite thanks to its delicious menu of authentic Philly cheesesteaks. Fortitude Valley’s lunch seekers and late-night revellers can rejoice with the news that PJ’s Steaks has decided to open a second location on Brunswick Street in the heart of the entertainment precinct. Nestled between New York Slice and Pie Face, PJ’s Steaks will carry over the same menu with the exception of hot dogs and will stay open until 3:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays to sate those post-bender cravings. PJ’s Steaks in the Valley is tentatively slated to open in the first week of June – watch this space.

Beach House
With its refreshing dairy-free frozen yoghurts and brightly coloured acai bowls, South Bank’s Beach House has been the perfect place to stop for a healthy snack during the warmer months. But as the air gets ever cooler, the team will be serving up a variety of warming house-made soups from a new soup cart at the front of the store. The set-up will have a soup-kitchen feel, and meals can be eaten at Beach House or taken away, with traditional, international, paleo and premium-organic choices. The soup cart will be launching this month – look out on The Weekend Edition for updates.

The Stables Craft Bar & Kitchen
On top of its ever-changing beer offering and selection of tasty lunch and dinner morsels, The Stables Craft Bar & Kitchen has now started plating up breakfast from 7:00–11:00 am on weekends. Expect to find delights such as vanilla bean pancakes with fresh berry coulis and whipped cream; eggs benedict sliders with your choice of bacon or smoked salmon; or the Punters Breakfast of bacon, eggs, chorizo, spinach, mushrooms, grilled tomato and sourdough.
