Pavement Whispers: Volume 74 May 31

From whispers of Neil Perry bringing Brisbane burgers to new dining halls and laneway bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Neil Perry’s Burger Project
No matter how many burger spots we have in Brisbane, the announcement of a new one still gets us a little hot under the collar with excitement – especially when its Neil Perry’s Burger Project. The renowned chef has announced he will be bringing his high-quality low-cost burgs to South Bank’s new Southpoint development in early 2017, after already establishing Burger Projects in New South Wales and Victoria. Why should you be excited? They’re damn good burgers. Plus, Burger Project uses all natural ingredients, its Cape Grim beef is cut, minced and rolled into patties by hand daily, its ice-cream churned each day, and it has strong sustainable practices. Burgers you can feel good about! Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for more updates in the coming months.

Sunnybank $2 Food Trail
The Sunnybank $2 Food Trail is back for winter! Sate your Asian food cravings on Saturday June 18, sending yourself on a self-guided culinary journey through Sunnybank Plaza and Sunny Park Shopping Centre. More than 40 local restaurants and vendors will be plating up $2 mini dishes, ranging cuisines such as Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Taiwanese and Hong Kong style. There will be 84 menu items on offer, as well as a pop-up Asahi bar, so make sure you prep your belly for a feast.

Mucho Mexicano
We shed a little tear when Che Asado was forced to close its doors early this year, but are excited to hear The Olé Restaurant Group has whipped up a new concept in its place to satisfy our meat cravings! Mucho Mexicano is set to open in the South Bank corner space in the coming weeks, with head chef Wayne Mountford serving up a range of Mexican-inspired share plates and snacks. Mucho promises to shake up the current Mexican offerings in Brisbane, with crispy fish tacos, dirty Mexican rice and tear-and-share beef brisket tacos just some of the eats you can lick your lips over, paired of course with some killer margaritas. More Mucho Mexicanos are already in the pipeline, with a Milton venue planned to open in August. ¡Ay, caramba!

Metropole Bar Eatery
Brisbane City dining is about to get a little more exciting. Those clever cats from Bellezza Group (you can thank them for Bar Pacino, Chocolate Soldier and more) are opening dining hall and bar Metropole Bar Eatery this coming Monday June 6 in Daisho’s new 180 Brisbane building at 180 Ann Street. The space brings casual-style dining to an impressive open space, which will feature a mix of world cuisines (everything from sushi and banh mi to pasta and meaty American eats) as well as an espresso bar, outdoor cocktail bar and covered laneway bar. Further down the street, the group is also busy working on burger and pizza bar Santa Monica, which is set to open in two months. We’ll have all the details for you early next week!

Barcadia launches breakfast
Your weekend breakfast plans are sorted – as of this Saturday June 4, Bulimba locale Barcadia will be serving breakfast every Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 am. You’ll find morning bites such as ricotta hotcakes with seasonal berries and honey mascarpone, and vincisgrassi mushrooms with truffle burrata and polenta chips. Barcadia has also partnered with local roasters Bear Bones Espresso for your coffee needs, and champagne will also be on the menu – breakfast should be celebrated, after all.
