Pavement Whispers: Volume 214 March 19

From whispers of a new doughnut and coffee spot to family-friendly cafes, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Brooklyn Donut & Coffee Co.
If you ask us, few culinary combos go together as seamlessly as coffee and doughnuts. Good news for those of you who agree – serving pillowy treats and top-notch specialty coffee is the M.O. for a brand-new concept coming to Brisbane’s north. Brooklyn Donut & Coffee Co. is a pit stop looking to deliver an authentic product inspired by the doughnut and coffee scene of New York City. Although the location is being kept under wraps for now, we can reveal that Brooklyn Donut & Coffee Co. will be serving more than a dozen flavours as well as fresh brownies made in-house, decadent mochas and hot chocolates made from the finest Belgian chocolate, and specialty coffee from a well-known brand to be announced. Brooklyn Donut & Coffee Co. is slated to open to the public in late May or early June – we’ll have more info for you as the opening date approaches.

Jugar Eat Play Drink
Exciting developments for brunch-starved parents out there – a new West End cafe opening in April will be making family units a priority. Jugar Eat Play Drink is the brainchild of siblings Corsino Solares and Jennifer Perkins, who are combining their respective expertise in hospitality and childcare to create a better cafe experience for kids and their caffeine-deprived parents. The name Jugar (pronounced hwey-gahr) is Spanish for ‘to play’, which is exactly what Corsino and Jennifer are looking to deliver. The cafe will boast an urban indoor play area for little ones to enjoy, fully enclosed by a see-through barrier so all the action is visible from the dining area. Jugar’s breakfast and lunch menu will feature a selection of modern classics with some imaginative flair, as well as top-notch coffee. Once Jugar officially opens, it will trade all day every day, as well as evening trading on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Keep your eyes peeled for more information (including details of Jugar’s parent and child activities) in a month’s time.

Table 26 Carindale
Back in December 2017, West End scored a charming eatery in the shape of Table 26. The cafe’s owner Amit Maharaj (long-time operator of popular local institution West End Park Cafe) has earned a solid following with his celebration of good food, good drink and good living, and is now bringing his brand of hospitality to Brisbane’s south. Table 26 will be opening a second location at Westfield Carindale at the end of May, transferring its menu of signatures across (think grilled flat bread filled with spicy scrambled eggs and sand-crab omelettes) while also adding some new amenities. The larger space will boast a central kiosk-style kitchen and grab-and-go cabinet, dissecting the space in two distinct sections. One side of Table 26 has been designed to cater to the corporate crowd, with built-in USB ports perfect for doing work with a coffee in hand. The other side is purpose built to suit mums and bubs, with a fully enclosed play area, soft play toys and fairy lights making for a great respite amidst the hubbub of the shopping centre.
