Pavement Whispers: Volume 77 June 21
From whispers of new burger joints to modern Turkish eats, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
Brooklyn Depot
For more than a year, our friends at The Weekend Edition Gold Coast have been gloating about how great the burgers are at Brooklyn Depot in Surfers Paradise. Well we don’t have to hear it any more – we’re about to get our own! Brooklyn Depot will be serving up its signature selection of gourmet burgers, hotdogs, wings, salads and Brooklyn-style sides from its new digs on Grey Street in South Bank as of mid-July. You’ll also find some decadent sweet treats (helllloooo double waffle ice-cream sandwich) and naughty alcoholic shakes. Stay tuned for updates!
Downtown Istanbul
With Mucho Mexicano just opening in South Bank, and a second location opening in Milton in the coming months, you would think that Eddie Isik and Olé Restaurant Group would be ready to have a little rest. But alas, they are already looking forward to their next project – Downtown Istanbul. Due to open mid-to-late July at Hawthorne’s upcoming gold class cinemas, the modern Turkish eatery will be a far cry from Eddie’s previous east-side offering, Ahmet’s. Downtown Istanbul will offer a fresh reinvention of traditional Turkish eats for lunch, dinner and weekend breakfast in a sleek modern setting. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for further updates.
88FortyEight
Brunswick Street Mall’s pop-up pods are continuing to grow, with the third pod soon to open as modern Australian restaurant 88FortyEight. As of July 1, you can dine for a cause for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, with 88FortyEight donating a percentage of its profits to The Uniting Hands Foundation. Each time you dine you’ll be assisting the charity, which is dedicated to helping at-risk communities. The charity holds close to owners Hom and Swotantra’s hearts, who grew up in the same Nepalese community and share a passion for their incredible culture.
St Coco Cafe
Southsiders rejoice! The clever girls behind Hallowed Grounds Espresso are working away on a new project – St Coco Cafe in Daisy Hill. Due to open in August, the cafe will focus on specialty coffee (including Wolff Coffee’s nitrogen-infused cold brew on tap) and hearty meals, with vegan, raw and gluten-free options available. We’ll keep you posted with more details soon!
