Pavement Whispers: Volume 76 June 14
From whispers of new street-food markets to Mexican cantinas, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
The Street Food Depot
Brisbane’s market scene is continuing to grow! Boundary Street Markets’ creator David Bostock and The Box Brand (behind Box on James) have joined forces to bring The Street Food Depot, with a suite of unique foodie events and markets popping up around Brisbane. Committed to feeding hungry locals, The Street Food Depot will present Food Truck Depot activations, Brisbane City’s Street Food Depot and Brisbane Growers and Community Markets in King George Square, Street Food Depots at Ballymore stadium and Shaw Road in Wooloowin, and the James Street Community Markets at Box on James. The first Brisbane City’s Street Food Depot will kick off on Thursday July 28, followed by the Brisbane Growers and Community Market from August 2–5.
Chingón
Start working up your taco appetite – one of Melbourne’s favourite Mexican cantinas, Chingón, is coming to Brisbane. The hombres behind Brooklyn Standard decided they needed some neighbours in Eagle Lane, and are working with the Melbourne team to bring the sister cantina to Brisbane City in late July. As with the southern venue, the Brisbane Chingón’s menu will focus on a restrained but authentic selection of Mexican street food, with the full menu available to take away. Look out on The Weekend Edition for more details soon.
Festival of the Free
It’s no secret that Mary Street’s Buffalo Bar loves the USA – and one bite of its smoked brisket hoagie will probably convert you too. To celebrate its love, Buffalo Bar is hosting a three-day freedom festival, Festival of the Free, over the Fourth of July weekend. Starting on Friday July 1, the festival will feature live bands, US craft beer, all-American fare, a tailgate party, beer pong, Seinfeld trivia and a food challenge – five-stack wagyu cheeseburger anyone? The eatery will also host a feasting package, with a three-course Americana luncheon for $65 per person.
Ristorante La Famiglia
Woolloongabba’s Trafalgar Lane is almost ready to be revealed, with its first tenants opening their door this week. Ribs & Burgers will officially open this Thursday (and we’ll have all the details for you), and Ristorante La Famiglia will open for dinner this Friday June 17 from 5:00 pm. Expect to find drool-worthy Italian favourites such as orecchiette with broccoli and pancetta, and classic oven-roasted porchetta. Look out on The Weekend Edition later this week for full details!
