Pavement Whispers: Volume 181 July 17

From whispers of Brisbane Burger Fest to on-demand wine delivery, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Burger Fest
Brisbane’s annual celebration of buns is back, baby! You heard it here first – Stone & Wood and The Triffid are presenting the second annual Burger Fest on Saturday August 25, shutting down Newstead’s Stratton Street for the ultimate burger celebration. This year, seven of Brisbane’s top bun slingers will be competing for the title of Brisbane’s best burger, and giving you the opportunity to make your own decision on the day. Lucky Egg, Greaser, Miss Kay’s, 5 Boroughs, Burger Project, MooFree Burgers and The Triffid will all be firing up the grills, each serving their classics plus an exclusive burger created especially for Burger Fest. In addition to some of the best burgs in town, Burger Fest will also feature burger-eating competitions and live music all day in The Triffid Beer Garden. Tickets are available now – head to our Event Guide for all of the juicy details.

Florence
Camp Hill is soon to welcome a new resident and she goes by the name of Florence. The neighbourhood cafe is currently underway on Martha Street, due to open in mid-to-late August. Florence is the brainchild of Elizabeth Florence and Sam Pethely – you may be familiar with Sam’s work as the head chef and co-owner of Brisbane City’s Felix for Goodness in Burnett Lane. The pair is looking to offer an approachable, nourishing and thoughtful dining experience in a neighbourhood setting, with a strong focus on local, seasonal, sustainable and ethically sourced produce. Florence will serve all-day breakfast and lunch seven days from 6:00 am, preparing as much as possible from scratch including ferments, pickles, baked goods and plant-based smoothies alongside coffee from Parallel Roasters. In addition to all-day dining, Florence will also offer a retail deli/larder filled with staples such as organic sourdough and eggs, as well as house-made products including cultured butter, cheeses, ferments, pickles, preserves, olives, fresh juices, nut milks, granola, pasta sauces and more. We’ll have more details soon!

Jimmy Brings
Fancy chilled wine on demand, delivered directly to your door in 30 minutes? That dream will soon become a reality when Jimmy Brings launches in Brisbane at the end of July. The booze delivery service has already hit Sydney by storm with its curated selection of wine, beer and spirits, delivered chilled within 30 minutes. The Brisbane offering will be the same as Sydney’s, including red, white, rosé and sparkling wine, beer, spirits, mixers and extras – we’ve all been in a situation where we needed chocolate, Panadol, Berocca, condoms or cigarettes (or all of the above) delivered straight to our door. Jimmy Brings will be launching with free delivery and a minimum order value of only $10, plus those who download the app to order will score a code to get $10 off their order. Initially 29 suburbs around Brisbane will be included in the delivery circle, stretching out from Brisbane City to the likes of Milton, Herston, Yeronga, Coorparoo, Ascot, Greenslopes and everywhere in between. Once established in the city, the delivery service will be stretching out even further – we’ll have full details when Jimmy Brings launches!

Racecourse Village
The evolution of the Brisbane Racing Club precinct continues, will the full retailer line-up announced for Nudgee Road’s Racecourse Village shopping centre. The centre sits opposite Doomben Racecourse in Ascot, due to open on July 31 after significant works along Nudgee Road, including road widening and the inclusion of new traffic lights to assist entry into the centre and the new Eagle Farm carpark. Racecourse Village will be centred around a full-line Woolworths supermarket, flanked by 18 specialty shops including a dentist, medical centre, pharmacy, beauty and hair salons and a pilates studio. On the food front, DA’Burger will be opening its second burger joint, joined by the likes of Sushi Kura, Koodles Korean BBQ and Vito’s Italian Cafe.
