Pavement Whispers: Volume 106 January 24

From whispers of new laneway bars to food truck launches, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

La Lune Wine Co.
Fish Lane is continuing to grow, and we’re certainly not mad about it. The latest addition is French-inspired wine bar La Lune Wine Co. from local restaurateur Paul McGivern, due to open in mid-March. With its name translating to ‘the moon’, the bar is a direct nod to Paul’s East Brisbane restaurant The Wolfe. La Lune Wine Co. will serve up a selection of cheese and charcuterie, alongside experimental dishes designed to engage the senses. Six of these dishes will be specially crafted to be paired with wines, served by the glass, in addition to the likes of crusty baguettes, fresh oysters and carpaccio. We’ll have more details for you soon!

Mylk + Ko
We’ve been wondering for a while what might take over Vespa Pizza’s old digs on Merthyr Road – and now we know! Mylk + Ko is coming to New Farm, with an aim to make wholesome food fun and decadent. The cafe comes from local gal Ines Scholtes, who has been recipe tasting gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan dishes over the past few years to present options that are delicious and inventive for the dietary sensitive market. Mylk + Ko will serve up an all-day brunch menu with both sweet and savoury options, including the likes of peanut butter cup acai bowls, red velvet waffles, green toasties, carrot pancakes and Iced Vovo mylkshakes. The cafe will also be serving up Allpress coffee, cold-pressed juices and Cocowhip. Mylk + Ko is planned to open on Sunday February 5 – keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for updates!

King of the Wings
After more than 12 months of ups and downs, we’re excited to announce that King of the Wings is ready to launch its second food truck! We can only guess that you’re excited too – after all, you voted it Best Food Truck in The Weekend Edition’s 2016 tenth annual EAT/drink Awards. The new truck is four times the size of the current King of the Wings set-up, and its unique design will be the first of its kind in Australia. With more size comes more options – the new truck will serve up extra sides including chicken garlic rice and salads, as well as a monthly special. The new King of the Wings truck will make its debut next Wednesday February 1 at Green Beacon, and you can look out for upcoming locations on the Brisbane Food Trucks website.
