Pavement Whispers: Vol 07 January 20

From whispers of Asian-fusion restaurants to superfood cafes, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Andos on Bardon
Located just a short stroll from the Bardon Bowls Club near Ithaca Creek, Andos on Bardon is a new suburban eatery that will be opening on the Australia Day long weekend. The menu will include a mixture of contemporary-Asian cuisine and modern-Australian fare ranging from crispy duck rolls to chicken schnitzel. The restaurant will celebrate its opening with The Shazza & Dazza Barefoot Ball, a black tie and thongs event on Friday January 23.

High St Eat
As part of the centre’s $50-million refurbishment, Toowong Village will be gaining its own alfresco dining precinct, High St Eat. Stretching along the Sherwood Road frontage of the centre, High St Eat will feature a number of restaurants and cafes, including Tibetan Kitchen, Guzman y Gomez, Chocolateria San Churro, Grill’d and Stellarossa. Well-known Brisbane Italian bakery and pasticceria, Gerbino’s, has already opened on the Gallery Level of the precinct, serving up delicious Italian pastries. The precinct is set to be complete in the coming months – look out on The Weekend Edition for official opening dates.

The Menagerie
Regulars of Room 60 and Roost Coffee at Kelvin Grove will have noticed it quietly underwent a transformation a couple of weeks ago. But lovers of Roost’s boutique coffee needn’t fear – its owners have now taken over the entire space, resulting in a brand-new venue, The Menagerie. The coffee shop and bar is open every day, and will still host regular events including cult-movie nights, erotic novel readings and a wine club, starting in February.

Black Milk HQ
The immensely popular Brisbane-based fashion house, Black Milk, has opened up a new cafe and concept store at its headquarters in Newstead. Black Milk HQ opened its doors last week, selling quality coffee, smoothies and tasty treats. In the coming weeks, the space will also host a concept store showcasing some live art and up-and-coming clothing releases.

Apple Tango
A cheeky new themed restaurant has opened on Annerley Road in Woolloongabba, offering guests a rotating cuisine focus, with summer shining the spotlight on Mexico. Pop in to Apple Tango for freshly baked pastries, a breakfast tagine or share plates such as spanner crab pakoras and sticky beef cheeks, or choose from the Mexican-themed menu which boasts treats like chorizo empanadas, smoked chicken tamales, palm sugar churros and pineapple-and-coriander margaritas.

Pineapple Express
The Pineapple Express crew have been doing a darn good job of keeping things under wraps, but the northside location has been secured, the fit-out is underway and some sweet superfoods will be hitting our mouths in the very near future. The superfood cafe will be pumping out nourishing smoothies, coffee, acai bowls and plant-based raw nosh sure to get Brisbane locals living up to those health-focused new year’s resolutions.
