Pavement Whispers: Volume 56 January 19

From whispers of bacon food trucks to make-up superstores, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Sephora
THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Sephora is coming to Brisbane! Yes, we know that in November last year the make-up superstore launched its online store in Australia but let’s be honest, it is not the same as walking those black-and-white striped aisles to browse the likes of Marc Jacobs Beauty, Kat Von D, Becca and Face Atelier. The launch date and location are yet to be announced, but it is looking like Brisbane City will be the home of the first Brisbane Sephora store this year. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for more details soon!

B’coz Bacon
If you don’t love bacon, we’re not sure we can be friends. You know who we can be friends with? B’coz Bacon. Inspired by his undying love for the salty cured meat, local lad Liam Gardener has set his sights on starting a food venture dedicated to bacon. He is currently working with The Box Brand to craft a ten-foot-long mobile shipping container trailer, which should be launching in the next four weeks, popping up at the Boundary Street Markets and others to be announced. All menu items will have a strong bacon focus, including the BRAT – panko-crumbed 1.5-cm thick bacon, rocket, avocado and tomato on sourdough, served with thrice-cooked chips sprinkled with parmesan, herb and bacon dust. YUM.

Project 41
Bowen Hills’ food scene is growing, with cafe Project 41 set to open in mid February on O’Connell Terrace. Project 41 is a combined venture from pals Stefan Blee (ex-London Fields chef) and Kieran Westlake, who have been talking for some time about opening an eatery in Brisbane. Small-batch beans will be the key focus of the cafe, grinding beans from Blackstar Coffee and The Odyssey Project, plus one regular rotating local roaster. For eats, Project 41 will be a gourmet salad and sandwich bar (think jaffles, made-to-order sandwiches and six-inch subs), and will also bake an array of pastries in house each morning. Look out on The Weekend Editions for updates.

Bella BBQ x The Doughnut Bar
What do you get when you combine a barbecue food truck and a doughnut van? You get something delicious, that’s what. Food truck wizards Bella BBQ and The Doughnut Bar have combined forces to create a cronut burger, melding together the decadent things they each do so very well. The Doughnut Bar’s glazed cronut will sandwich Bella BBQ’s low-and-slow smoked brisket, cheesy maple-bacon-infused mac and cheese, maple-infused hickory barbecue sauce (injectable for those wanting more) and dusted with bacon dust. The creation will be available at Bella BBQ as of this Thursday at the Brisbane Bandits game at Holloway Field, and will be available at The Doughnut Bar in the coming weeks.
