Pavement Whispers: Volume 58 February 9

From whispers of Latin street food to a dedicated crabhouse, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Comuna Cantina
If you haven’t had the pleasure of sinking your teeth into a flavour-packed arepa, now is your chance. Comuna Cantina is set to bring Latin street food to Brisbane City’s Albert Lane in mid-March, embracing the flavours and culture of Latin America. The fresh and health-focused menu will feature the likes of Venezuelan-style arepas, tacos, cassava chips, salads and tortas, which you can take away or eat in, paired with an ice-cold Pacifico or frozen margarita. All dishes will be made in-house daily, and will be low carb, high protein and packed with fresh vegetables, premium meats and house-made sauces and salsas. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for updates soon!

St. James Crabhouse & Kitchen
Do you know what this city is lacking? A. dedicated. crabhouse. Right? That won’t be a problem for much longer, when St. James Crabhouse & Kitchen opens its doors in Kangaroo Point in the coming weeks. No surprises here – the eatery will specialise in seafood (namely crustaceans), and invites patrons to don gloves and bibs and eat with their hands. On the menu you’ll find Queensland blue swimmers, king and snow crabs from Alaskan waters, South Australian mussels, Moreton Bay bugs and more, served with a selection of American-style sauces such as Baltimore garlic and butter, citrus beurre blanc and Louisiana cajun sauce. Meat lovers will be satisfied too with ribs, wings, steaks and burgers also on offer. More details soon.

Seven South
Fancy some lemon thyme, blueberry and ricotta hotcakes? How about smokey bourbon and maple-glazed beef ribs? These are just a couple of the tasty morsels you will find on the full-day menu at Yeronga’s newest eatery, Seven South. The restaurant is the latest venture from Gavin and Kylie Bartholomew, who previously owned Ashgrove’s Home Cafe. The full-day menu offers breakfast, lunch, bar snacks, dinner and dessert, and features traditional favourites with a creative twist. Seven South is open now – look out for full details on The Weekend Edition in the coming days.
