Pavement Whispers: Volume 60 February 23
From whispers of gourmet jarcakes to scrolled ice-cream, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …
The Mason Baker
Four words for you, dear reader. Cake. In. A. Jar. And it is coming to Brisbane. Travelling through the United States, 24-year-old James Willis discovered a gourmet jarcake delivery service, and was inspired to bring a similar idea home to Brisbane. Teaming up with e’cco bistro’s Philip Johnson he created The Mason Baker, a gourmet treat delivery service where deliciously decadent cakes with unique toppings are housed inside a glass jar then shipped nationwide, with same-day delivery for Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. The Mason Baker will be launching online in early March – we’ll keep you updated.
Botanica Real Food
We know you love Red Hill’s Botanica Real Food – you voted it winner of Best Providore and runner-up in Best Place for Tasty Cheap Eats in our 2015 EAT/drink Awards. Well we have wonderful news for you! Botanica has announced that it will be opening a second store in May. The location of the new store is still top secret, but it will have a very similar offering to its Red Hill sibling with takeaway healthy breakfasts, salads and sweet treats. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for full details closer to its opening.
The Doughnut Bar Wintergarden
Not content with just doughnuts, cronuts, coffee and extreme shakes, The Doughnut Bar has announced an exciting addition to its new Wintergarden store – scrolled ice-cream. Yep, SCROLLED ICE-CREAM. We’ve heard all about this new sweet-treat craze in Melbourne, and now we can finally get a taste of this unique ice-cream experience. The Doughnut Bar Wintergarden is set to open this Thursday February 25 at midday and will be also offering new-recipe brioche doughnuts and cronuts, shakes and Blackboard Coffee.
Piggy Back
The talented folk from the Venzin Group have a new project in the works – Jindalee cafe Piggy Back. Due to open late March, the cafe will serve breakfast and lunch all day everyday as well as Fonzie Abbott Coffee, much like sibling venues Pawpaw and Picnic. Nestled in the leafy suburban suburb, Piggy Back aims to fill a foodie gap in the area, with a wholesome menu written by Pawpaw’s chef, smoothies, acai bowls and house-made cakes and baked goods. Look out on The Weekend Edition for updates soon.
