Pavement Whispers: Volume 57 February 2

From whispers of pop-up bakeries to new boutique bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

The Brass Barrel
Looking for a place that celebrates your eggs benedict cravings in the morning but sates your cocktail desires come evening? The Brass Barrel may be your new go-to then. Opening on March 1 on Baroona Road in Rosalie, The Brass Barrel will plate up signature cafe delights by day, and transform into an intimate bar at night, serving the likes of its house Brass Barrel Lager and cocktails such as the Expressive Martini – an espresso martini with a twist. Once open, The Brass Barrel is looking to host monthly events, from live acoustic music sets to painting workshops.

Bakehouse by Gramercy
The clever team at Gramercy in Brisbane City is making its way over to James Street – but for a limited time only. Following the success of its (too-short) doughnut pop-up last year, Gramercy has decided to take on a short-term residency on James Street from February 18 to April 30, in the pop-up capsule beside sass & bide. Bakehouse by Gramercy will offer a small-but-delicious rotating menu of daily handmade baked goods, including tarts, danishes, croissants, pastries, cakes, cookies and housemade jams and preserves. All items can be taken away individually, or in larger take-home packs to share (or not share).

5 Boroughs Ascot
Stones Corner’s 5 Boroughs is getting set to bring its burgers and New York street food to Ascot, with its second venue planned to open on Racecourse Road at the beginning of March. The eatery will be drawing on its favourite parts of the Stones Corner venue, but giving them a boutique twist, alongside a number of new offerings to create a broader menu – think eight-hour slow-cooked baby back pork ribs and New York-style barbecue dishes. 5 Boroughs Ascot will also be much bigger than the original, allowing for an expanded bar offering and outdoor beer garden. Look out on The Weekend Edition for more details soon.
