Pavement Whispers: Volume 109 February 14

From whispers of new foodie precincts to long-awaited dinners, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Coorparoo Square
Since the announcement that Coorparoo Square would include a new Dendy cinema for Brisbane, we’ve been eager to find out what other retailers the mixed-used development was going to bring to the leafy suburb. After almost two years of waiting, the first of the confirmed retailers have been announced. Due for completion in the third quarter for 2017, Coorparoo Square has announced its first 12 tenants to join Dendy. Supermarket chain ALDI heads up the group, alongside Remy’s, Hello Harry, Poblano Mexican, Saffron Indian, Mission Vietnamese, Kivahan bakery, hairdresser TigerLamb and barber Chop Spot. More retailers are yet to be announced – we’ll let you know when we know!

Greenglass dinners
If you’ve been enjoying Greenglass by day but haven’t really been able to delve into that impressive wine wall (because, work), then we’ve got great news for you. The Brisbane City hideaway quietly launched its dinner service last week, meaning you can take your time to really appreciate the boutique drops on offer. Greenglass is now open until 5:00 pm Monday to Friday for wine and cheese, and from 5:30 pm on Thursdays and Fridays you can settle in for dinner. Sticking to its simple ethos, Greenglass’ ever-changing dinner menu consists of just four mains and one dessert, with dishes such as mushroom gnocchi, squid risotto, lamb rack with ratatouille and classic steak and chips gracing the menu.

Pearl Cafe’s new menu
Woolloongabba’s Pearl Cafe is gearing up to launch its new autumn menu – the first major menu shake-up since new owner Manita Arnold took over the eatery late last year. Due to launch late next week, the new menu will feature the likes of barnyard quail with caramelised peach and rocket, handmade gnocchi with zucchini, lemon cream and crisp artichoke, and grilled spatchcock with chermoula, baharat, labneh and eggplant kasundi. As a professional winemaker Manita is passionate about the drops poured at Pearl, and is currently also working on adding a matched wine list to the menu.

Bruno’s BNE expands
Since opening to the public in late October last year Bruno’s BNE in Tarragindi has been positively abuzz with activity, thanks in part to the tasty cafe fare and owner Bruno’s infectious enthusiasm. In order to cater for the ever-increasing levels of patronage, Bruno has expanded the amount of seating available – taking over a neighbouring building to add an extra 60 seats. The coming weeks will also see Bruno’s BNE introduce a night menu of tapas and share plates – including the likes of charcuterie platters, salmon croquettes and buttermilk-fried calamari – as well as a liquor license.
