Pavement Whispers: Volume 101 December 6

From whispers of hole-in-the-wall bars to pop-up parties, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Deathproof
What do you get when you combine the talents of artist Steen Jones and the guys from Death Before Decaf? You get a pretty rad little bar called Deathproof. The bar is taking over the space previous occupied by Anise on Brunswick Street and is set to open in mid-January next year. The DBD guys originally approached Steen to paint a mural for the space, but having always had a dream to open a bar, Steen jumped at the chance to be involved, applying his skills as both artist and carpenter to bring the space to life. Deathproof promises to bring a chilled atmosphere, good times, great drinks and delicious bar food, keeping the offering simple to ensure consistent quality. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for more details soon!

Cobbler’s new bar
It’s been a big year for West End’s Cobbler – as well as continuing to keep the good people of Brisbane well lubricated, the bar took out the national award for Small Bar of the Year at the Australian Bar Awards in September. It’s looking like 2017 is going to be even bigger, with the Cobbler team working on a second bar on Ann Street in Fortitude Valley. Details (including its name) are currently under wraps, but we can reveal the bar will be located next to institution The Beat and is looking to open in February/March next year. Knowing the talents of the Cobbler team, you can rest assured that the new venue will have a killer cocktail and curated spirit offering too. We’ll have more for you soon.

Canadian Club Racquet Club
Australian summer isn’t summer without tennis. If the Australian Open is high on your summer viewing calendar, you’re going to be pretty jazzed about the Canadian Club Racquet Club. The whisky house is popping up at Sandstone Point Hotel throughout December and January, serving up ice-cold Canadian Club cocktails and classic Canadian Club and dry. The Racquet Club will be broadcasting every Australian Open game live on big screens and also host DJs every night. Head to our Events Guide for full details.
