Brooklyn Standard
Brisbane’s inner-city music scene is about to get a much-needed boost when new live-music venue Brooklyn Standard opens tomorrow. Adam Barton, the man behind Cove Bar & Dining, is spearheading the establishment of the new bar, which will be located on Eagle Lane in Brisbane City. Punters can expect an eclectic mix of music including jazz, funk and blues when the venue opens its doors on Wednesday December 3 at 4:00 pm. Get the full story on The Weekend Edition this Thursday at 10:00 am.

Hop & Pickle
You may have been sad to notice that South Bank’s long-time burger joint Beastie Burgers had closed its doors, but the team hasn’t left – it is just transforming the space into a new venue, Hop & Pickle. Promising to bring ‘pub gastronomy’ to Little Stanley Street, Hop & Pickle will be serving up what its name suggests, beer and fancy pub-style grub. Keep your eyes peeled, the venue is set to be opening its doors in the coming weeks before Christmas.

The Manhattan Line
Opening just across the way from Hop & Pickle on Little Stanley Street, The Manhattan Line is also set for a late December opening. The bar and eatery is the newest venture from the team at Fortitude Valley’s Fourth Wall, and will sit in the space previously occupied by Sardine Tin, with the addition of a new outdoor awning and deck. Jumping on the American craze that is sweeping the city, The Manhattan Line will serve up New York-inspired eats, with beers and cocktails on tap.

Bincho
The Katarzyna Group will be trying its hand at Japanese cuisine when it opens Bincho, a yakitori-ya establishment located between Press Club and Empire Hotel. Yasuke Sei has been appointed as head chef, under the supervision of Katarzyna’s executive chef, Richard Slarp. The eatery will have full table service serving Japanese share plates of charcoal grilled meats. Originally slated for a mid-November opening, Bincho will now be grilling late next week.

Yard Bird Ale House Paddington
After establishing its name in Fortitude Valley for delicious American-style comfort food, Yard Bird Ale House is opening its second location in Paddington next week. Breakfast will be served daily from 7:00 am followed by lunch and dinner, with the venue guaranteeing it will trade each day until midnight. The Yard Bird menu will be mostly the same as its Fortitude Valley sibling, with six kinds of chicken wings, pizzas, burgers, and an assortment of starters and light meals.

NY Brew Company
A new bar and restaurant will be bringing local craft and imported beers, specialty cocktails and New York street food to one of the city’s oldest buildings when it opens this Thursday December 4. Ahead of a planned conversion of the Brunswick Street Mall’s TCB Building into a 120-room hotel, NY Brew Company will be setting up camp in the Fortitude Valley landmark and pouring American-style beer from the likes of Green Beacon Brewing and Fortitude Brewing Company.

Where the Wild Things Are Books & Gifts
West End’s beloved independent bookstore Avid Reader will soon be turning its attention to local children and young adults, opening a new bookstore dedicated to little bookworms, their parents, carers and teachers. Located right next door to the original store on Boundary Street, Where the Wild Things Are Books & Gifts is expected to be open by Christmas.
