Pavement Whispers: Vol 37 August 25

From whispers of new Italian restaurants to French bistros, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Les Bubbles
Changes have been made to restaurateur Damian Griffiths’ plans for 144 Wickham Street. The venue has now been named Les Bubbles, and is set to be a Parisian steakhouse with a simple menu, aiming to make French cuisine more accessible. The hero of the menu will be steak frites – steak and fries – alongside a handful of other French-style offerings, including vegetarian and pescatarian meals, traditional starters and desserts. Oh, and did we mention the frites are bottomless? Downstairs will be bar Bubbles Bath-House, which nods to the building’s infamous bathhouse history. The steakhouse will be open from 5:00 pm to 1:00 am seven days a week and is set to open to the public on September 10, with the full venue opening on September 11. Look out on The Weekend Edition for updates.

Otto Ristorante
Known for running renowned Sydney spots Quay and Otto Ristorante, the entrepreneurial minds at The Fink Group are now looking north and will be opening a sister venue to Otto in Brisbane in early 2016. Conceptually similar to Otto, the new venue will offer a modern Italian menu using Australian ingredients, overlooking the Brisbane River and Story Bridge from a location within the new 480 Queen Street development. Otto’s Brisbane location will include an exterior bar and casual dining facilities and access to an elevated public park overlooking Adelaide Street and St John’s Cathedral.

Getta Burger
Brent and Amy Poulter have been busy over the past few years with their popular food truck, That BBQ Joint and burgeoning Getta Burger empire. News has emerged that a new Getta Burger location will be opening in West End in mid-October. Located on Montague Road towards South Brisbane, Getta Burger West End will be a 50-seat venue offering dine-in and takeaway options, with the added bonus of liquor service. Expect taps of craft beer including American ales and local favourites to go with the usual selection of burgers and fries.

The Fruit & Deli Co
The Pennisi family has a strong foodie history in Australia, dating back to the 1920s as Queensland’s first cherry growers. The family has continued to please the bellies of Queenslanders over the generations, opening fruit stores and Kenmore’s Ingredients Deli. Its next project is The Fruit & Deli Co, opening on November 12 at Westfield North Lakes. The store will feature a fully visible commercial kitchen, produce section, international deli, ice-cream, salads and much more, including a wide range of paleo, gluten-free, kosher and organic products.
