Pavement Whispers: Volume 166 April 3

From whispers of a famous fried chicken pop-up to weekly ramen nights, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Belles Hot Chicken
For true fried-chicken lovers, Belles Hot Chicken needs no introduction. The eatery has taken Melbourne and Sydney by storm with its Southern-inspired fried chicken, and now – finally – Brisbane is getting a taste. When Belles’ parent company 100 Burgers Group opened Welcome to Bowen Hills earlier this year, we were praying that one glorious day the group would bring Belles north too. Our prayers have been answered – 100 Burgers has confirmed that Belles Hot Chicken will be popping up at Welcome to Bowen Hills this May. Exact dates are yet to be announced, but we do know that founder and executive chef Morgan McGlone will be there for Belles’ Brisbane debut. If demand is there, there may be a permanent Belles Hot Chicken coming soon to our fine city – so make sure you clear your calendar for eating all of the fried chicken in May.

The Wurst Dogs
Still at Welcome to Bowen Hills, the street-food hub has announced The Wurst Dogs as its next pop-up vendor in residence, taking over the space occupied by King of the Wings for a six-week tenancy. The Wurst Dogs will be serving up a modern take on the classic hot dog, featuring the likes of smoked bratwurst, cheese kranskys, house-made relishes and pickled cucumbers, chilli beef, spicy kimchi, cheeses, sauces and more.

Ramen Wednesdays at Gerard’s Bar
Gerard’s Bar is bringing Ramen Wednesdays back by popular demand, kicking off this Wednesday April 4. From 4:00 pm until late (or sold out) every Wednesday, the Fortitude Valley bar will be serving up slurptastic tonkotsu-style ramen with sake pairings and Japanese beer. Each bowl features free-range macadamia-fed pork, soy-pickled eggs, green onions and crisp nori with handmade egg noodles, plus your choice of black garlic or rich chilli oil.

Down N’ Out
Just in case you missed it, last week we announced Sydney’s insanely popular Down N’ Out burger joint is popping up on the Gold Coast. From this Thursday April 5 to Sunday April 15, Down N’ Out will be slinging its stacked burgers in Broadbeach from 1:00 pm to late each day. Expect to find extreme American-style wagyu beef and fried chicken burgers, plus Mountain Goat craft beers, ciders and wines. Get the full details here!
