Pavement Whispers: Volume 219 April 23

From whispers of decadent mac and cheese eateries to a new specialty coffee spot for Woolloongabba, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Mac From Way Back
It was a sad day for carb lovers when beloved mac and cheese dispensary Mac From Way Back moved out of its bricks-and-mortar location at Sabotage Social – but there is a delicious silver lining on the horizon. The massively popular food-truck concept is once again planting roots in a permanent location, this time setting up shop in a spot halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The takeaway joint will be serving up baked-style mac and cheese that is cheesier than ever before – cue all of the drooling. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the new Mac From Way Back store will be slinging 100 free burgers to celebrate its opening – keep your eyes on The Weekend Edition in the next couple of weeks for an address and more information.

Only. Specialty Coffee Woolloongabba
If you’ve ever wandered Brisbane CBD seeking out a delicious brew, odds are you’ve stumbled across the unbeatable offering from Only. Specialty Coffee. Good news for Gabba locals – the crew from Only. is opening a second location in your hood! Nestled into the base of the UniLodge building at the Buranda Transit Centre, Only. Specialty Coffee Woolloongabba will focus heavily on coffee – you can expect the best of Five Senses roasting, as well as a rotation of single origins on both espresso and filter. Hungry patrons can snack on a concise offering of baked treats including muffins, brownies and melt-in-your-mouth Butterbings. Matthew Reynolds has come on board to design the space, with the team from Woodsters taking care of construction. Only. Specialty Coffee Woolloongabba is set to open in either the last week of April or the first week of May – we’ll have more details for you very soon.

Cake & Bake
Huge news for lovers of decadent cakes and salivation-worthy savouries – baked-goods icon Jocelyn Hancock is relocating her Cake & Bake concept to Newstead. Cake & Bake’s original Montague Road location has been a popular providore pitstop ever since it opened in 2015, but a desire to be closer to her home (Jocelyn is a long-time New Farm resident) has prompted the move back over the Brisbane River. The new location will open in the first week of May, inhabiting a building on Commercial Road. Cake & Bake Newstead will reportedly boast a larger shopfront than its West End predecessor, stocking its full range of sweet and savoury offerings and quality retail products. As always, we’ll bring you a closer look once Cake & Bake Newstead launches.
