Grab lunch on the go from Patricia’s Spanish Paella
Born in Chile, Patricia Braun grew up immersed in the flavours of Spain. Later in life she moved to Spain’s Bilbao to study teaching Spanish and found herself interested in the similarities of the Spanish and Chilean food traditions and that is when she discovered her love of paella.
Cooking paella with neighbours and friends became a part of Patricia’s weekly routine as well as hunting around local food markets for produce. Years later, Patricia is now teaching Spanish at her Spanish Learning Centre in Brisbane and also has a successful market stall, Patricia’s Spanish Paella, at the Davies Park Market. Starting with just one paella pan and a broken table at a small stall, Patricia knew in her heart if she stuck with it she could gradually increase the number of pans and her business. Now after three years Patricia’s paella stall has six pans all overflowing with flavours of paella that will certainly tantalise your tastebuds.
Seafood, chicken chorizo and vegetarian are pilled high in massive paella pans and vibrant coloured herbs and vegetables such as peas, capsicum, beetroot and red onion all bursting from the mountains of rice like jewels. Patricia has added a paleo version of paella made from cauliflower rice, chicken, chorizo and chickpeas as well as nachos, tacos, open burritos and chilli con carne to her menu. If you are inspired to have a go at making your own paella, Patricia also sells calasparra rice (imported from Spain) and her own blend of paella spices. Located adjacent the grassy field at Davies Park Market, Patricia’s Spanish Paella is a must stop at some point on your market journey. Sit down on the green grass and drizzle lemon over the top of your chosen dish and wait for the flavour explosion.
