Food Chains film uncovers agriculture worker exploitation
09 Jan 2014We may coo over our freshly bought bounty of fruit and vegetables, but how often do we stop and ponder the plights of those who picked the fruit or harvested the vegetables? Food Chains is an upcoming documentary that will shed some light on the exploitation of farm workers in America’s agriculture industry. Produce pickers in Florida and California share their stories of physical and verbal abuse, unfair wages and exposure to heat and pesticides. The film was successfully funded through Kickstarter in 2012, proving that while some mass food producers may not be interested in the welfare of farm workers, the public certainly is.
