Pablo & Rusty’s unveils its new cashless coffee and croissant cafe

The future of coffee consumption is here! A new inner-city java joint is doing away with notes and coins in favour of a modern digitised form of payment, which is proving to be a huge plus for busy CBD workers.

You might have heard rumours that the age of spare change is coming to an end, and with the arrival of Brisbane’s first cashless cafe Pablo and Rusty’s on Mary Street the rumours might well be true. The forward-thinking Sydney-based roasting company is trialling the cash-free technology here in Brisbane, with an eye to establish a new norm for payments. The process is remarkably simple – customers can sign up to the Hey You app to order ahead and pay without cash, or they can pick up a custom P&R Frank Green SmartCup, sign up online with CafePay and use the cup’s built-in chip to tap and go. In addition to this, the cafe also has systems to take EFTPOS payments from credit card and phone-based payment systems. The coffee counter itself even boasts some space-age technology, with Viper steamers, a slick custom Black Eagle coffee machine and specialty Victoria Arduino grinders ensuring the perfect pour every time.

Okay, I know you java junkies are jonesing to know what’s on offer, so here’s the skinny. If you rock up to the counter you can order black, white, batch-brewed filter coffee or nitrogen-infused single origin (in addition to teas and hot chocolates). If you want something with a chill to it, Pablo & Rusty’s also have you covered with affogatos, iced coffee, cold-pressed juices from HRVST ST, Old Cossack probiotic kefir sodas and sparkling sodas from Six Barrel Soda Co. In addition to the drink, nibbles and pastries are available daily from Peregrine Pastries. This simple but boutique offering is all about saving you time, and with your swanky SmartCup in hand you’ll only need to linger if you want to.
