Get some freshly squeezed goodness at Ollie Organic, James Street’s new juice and smoothie bar

If you’ve cruised down Doggett Street recently and had your attention grabbed by an orange-hued haunt, you likely just zoomed past Ollie Organic. This colourful nook is pumping out organic produce-packed juices and smoothies, with a menu of concoctions giving sippers much-needed nutrient kicks and protein-fuelled energy hits. Fancy swapping your coffee with something a bit better for the bod? Maybe pull over for a juice next time you’re in the area …

James Street is overflowing with cafes, bars, bakeries and restaurants, but when it comes to thirst-quenching juice bars, Ollie Hill reckons that the glitter strip is still lacking. The Queenstown-born abstract-painter-turned-juice-whizzer is the brains behind Ollie Organic – a brilliantly-coloured bolthole tucked away on Doggett Street, just a blueberry flick from The Calile. Ollie, who previously had been running an organic produce stall at the Jan Powers Farmers Markets, saw a gap in the market for a juice and smoothie slinger that proudly wore its love for all-natural produce on its sleeve. “I wanted to fit in the market with something that was one-hundred-percent transparent, says Ollie. “It’s all fresh – everything is as best as it gets, as good as it gets.” Ollie’s cosy space, which previously housed a compact coffee shop, boasts the same zest and colour as a good juice. The vibrant orange colour scheme is offset by a neon sign, plenty of potted greenery, a white marble-like counter top and an eye-catching mural.

When it comes to the Ollie Organic menu, Ollie is calling upon his market produce suppliers to source some top-notch fruit and veg from across Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Though the menu is tight, it’s packed full of variety, from the detoxifying green juices to protein-packed smoothies. “I wanted to have a range of everything,” explains Ollie. “I wanted to have simple juices, I wanted to have ones that were bursting with flavour, and I wanted to have purely healthy ones.” The menu is divided into six seasonal juices and six smoothies. Early favourites are the Immunity Boost (made with lemon, ginger, celery, beetroot, apple and turmeric), the Bizarre Carrot Euphoria (carrot, celery, apple, ginger, lemon and basil) and the Tango with the Mango (mango, raspberries, banana, honey and milk). Guests can grab these bad boys to go in eco-friendly and compostable takeaway cups or, if they’re perching at the bar or sat outside, they can have their beverage dispensed into a fancy wine glass.

Ollie Organic is now open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday. Head to the Stumble Guide for operating hours and menu details.
