O'lea food bar, Woolloongabba

New bar and foodie haunt Olea opens in Woolloongabba

Small bars are a golden invention. Design savvy and serving carefully curated offerings of liquor and foodstuffs, the small bar lets you indulge in superb offerings and be tucked back in bed just post midnight. The latest establishment to open under this pretense is O’lea in Woolloongabba. Posited along Stanley Street East, next door to Foxy Bean, O’lea is a suburban wine and beer bar, serving meals crafted from market-driven produce.

Cross-textural in design with a focus on wood, tiling and concrete elements, Olea appears refined and inviting. Dimly lit exposed lightbulbs set the mood, while seating supports communal dining, small groups and solo sips at the bar. Custom wooden furniture and fittings have been handcrafted by Lloyd Ringer of Sunshine Coast-based YADA, while black-and-white tiling takes an elegant kitchen approach.

Behind the bar you’ll find premier on-tap and bottled beers from Australia and overseas, with wines originating from France, Italy and Australia. Owners Oliver Dietel and Bryan Wong Lea Kit (both have worked at The Lark) have shaped a menu of lavish flavours, such as the Stuffed Pork Loin with Spinach & Buffalo Fetta, Serviettenknödel and Creamy Mushroom Sauce and Pan-fried Sea Scallops with Scallion Potato Cakes, Pea Wasabi Puree and Crispy Prosciutto.

Open from this Friday for dinner, continuing into brunch over the weekend, Olea will also kick off a lunch sitting from next week, serving eat-in or takeaway lunchboxes filled with the likes of pork steamed buns, Wagyu burgers and rice paper rolls. Patrons can also expect to take their feasts or icy cold beer in the beer garden out the back from the start of December.
