Nostalgia Haus opens in West End

A sweet new offering has sprouted inside an idle garage, creating another community-minded space for West End.

When the daily hum of life has you trotting from home to work and back again, it’s easy to miss the little things that make the everyday a great adventure. Hurry along Vulture Street and you might overlook this endearing find, set back from the footpath and wedged between a fashion boutique, a massage clinic and an Asian grocer. Young creatives Ollie Ragoo and Michael Michaelides were barista bros working in Brisbane City when they decided to step out on their own and convert The Happy Cabin’s garage into a laid-back hangout where community and coffee combine.

Pull up a crate on the astroturfed terrain and nurse a cup of Lavazza, a chai latte or a Greek-style coffee under the handiwork of street artists Sofles and Drapl. A selection of pre-made, all-day snacks spanning sandwiches, Sonoma muesli and gourmet yoghurt will soon hit the blackboard, with the Nostalgia Haus boys currently testing and tweaking the menu.

Launched as an extension of Ollie’s clothing label Nostalgia’s Cure, the cafe heralds the beginning of some exciting new projects for the Nostalgia Haus team. Despite only being open a few weeks, the venue has already hosted its first community event, kicking off a monthly stand-up comedy night complete with hot chocolate and popcorn. Locals will be invited to join in a range of social events in the future – keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates.
