Although Bakery Lane is more commonly known as the home for baked treats and boutiques, one major drawcard of the Fortitude Valley hub is Philip Kim’s popular Nom Nom Korean Eatery. After its former neighbour Phase 4 Records moved around the corner to Ann Street, Philip decided to utilise its space and expand his own joint to provide what he saw was lacking in The Valley’s food scene. As a die-hard lover of ramen, Philip has opted to extend his kitchen offering to include the hearty noodle soup, setting up a bar and adding a couple of choice ramen and Japanese-inspired dishes to the menu for Nom Nom Ramen & Sake.

At the moment, soup seekers can slurp two kinds of ramen – the classic ramen with a pork-stock base, egg noodles and your choice of pork or chicken, and a soy ramen with a soy-stock base with chicken, kimchi or prawns. A fried chicken, vegetables and noodle dish is also available for those that want to do away with the broth. The bar stocks a choice selection of sakes to sip, as well as local craft beer off tap and a few bottled Japanese varieties. As if being gifted a ramen and sake bar wasn’t good enough, Philip is already on the cusp of opening another spot just around the corner on Warner Street. Nom Nom Valley will open this weekend, serving up breakfast bites, acai bowls, protein shakes (good news if you hit the F45 gym next door), and coffee in a chic modern-industrial setting.
