Nest Brisbane hatches on Roma Street

A new Asian-inspired street-food destination has opened in Brisbane City, dishing up East-meets-West favourites from morning to night.

Tucked inside level two of an inner-city building, straddled between the Brisbane Transit Centre and Hotel Jen, a lavish new restaurant, bar and lounge has hatched. Open to the public from 7:00 am tomorrow, Friday January 30, Nest Brisbane boasts a wealth of contrasting spaces designed for drinking, dining and lounging, from intimate nooks to lavish chesterfields and a fantastic view of Roma Street’s famous 100-year-old fig tree strung with 200 red lanterns. From the elaborate wooden ‘nest’ structure clinging to the roof to the vibrant wall murals and metallic detailing, all of Nest’s 430 square metres have been treated to the same fine attention to detail.

Swing by for a breakfast buffet featuring Asian-inspired favourites like congee, dumplings and omelettes, perch at the noodle bar for a fast lunch of rice paper rolls, nasi goreng and pad Thai, or take a seat closer to the open kitchen to watch the four giant woks and master chef Kenneth Ip do his thing. Successfully navigating a balance of traditional Asian flavours with modern Australian twists, the a la carte menu will tempt with dishes like king prawns, calamari, chicken and rice noodles in the house Malay curry sauce, or a wholesome quinoa salad topped with grilled red peppers, eggplant, zucchini and fresh basil. But the theatrics aren’t just reserved for the dinner plate – the crew behind the bar can also conjure up a bit of magic in the glass. Indulge in a house cocktail like the Granny Smith apple smash mojito, featuring spiced rum, house-made cinnamon syrup, ginger beer and fresh lime juice and mint gathered from the restaurant’s rooftop herb and honey garden. Those after a simpler tipple can choose from a range of wines or draught beers such as 4 Pines, Stone & Wood and Little Creatures.
