Attention treat-loving tragics looking to satiate their nighttime sweet cravings – you’ll want to sit down for this. The crew behind Burleigh’s beloved Oh My, Waffle is looking to replicate its sugary success here in Brisbane with Mr Treat – a cookie and ice-cream concept that officially opened in Fortitude Valley over the weekend. If the sound of chunky and gooey loaded cookies and swirls of soft-serve imbued with sweet-tooth tickling mix-ins awakens a craving within you, read on to find out what this pint-sized dessert parlour has in store …

Ask Burleigh locals where they choose to go for dessert and they’ll point towards Oh My, Waffle. The eatery, which earned fame thanks to its menu of golden waffles topped with ice-cream and lashings of chocolate sauce (plus its range of cereal-infused milkshakes), has been a staple of the Gold Coast’s dining scene since 2018. Despite the popularity of its signature items, Oh My, Waffle’s small range of freshly baked cookies have became a cult favourite – so much so that dessert doyennes Courtney Havill and Jessica Hannagan have decided to make them a core component of their latest indulgent idea, Mr Treat. The duo, who opened Oh My, Waffle in order to service a confection-craving community bereft of post-sundown options, have elected to bring their brand of bonne bouche to Brisbane’s party precinct, securing a tiny space in the heart of Fortitude Valley. Mr Treat opened on Saturday August 14 to a rapturous response, with a lengthy line of customers – all looking to get a taste of the eatery’s covetable cookies and ice-cream – snaking its way up the street until product was exhausted.

This cosy blue-hued delicacy dispensary (formerly home to NYC Bagel Deli) swaps waffles for an elevated take on Oh My’s chewy dough disks – we’re not talking about the simple choc-chip and salted-caramel variety folks on the coast are familiar with, but rather mouth-watering loaded varieties that’ll put any store-bought option to shame. Mr Treat’s menu boasts nine kinds of colourful cookies (available in single serve or in packs of four and six), from the Mrs Treat (vanilla dough filled with milk- and dark-chocolate chips) and We Met on Crumble (vanilla cookie dough infused with salted Caramilk ganache and white-chocolate chips) to the Drop it Like It’s Hot! (a red-velvet cookie with white-chocolate chops and cream-cheese frosting) and Wake and Bake (chocolate dough with Reese’s chocolate chips, milk-chocolate chips and peanut butter). All cookies can be injected with a dose of salted caramel, Nutella and Biscoff, and they can also be warmed up for a dash of extra-gooey bliss. The flip side of Mr Treat’s menu is dedicated to soft-serve ice-cream, which can be ordered in a cup or cone, as a milkshake or crowning your choice of cookie. A range of specialty creations are available for those that have trouble making choices under pressure, but decisive snackers that fancy a custom creation can opt for the DIY route. Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or vegan vanilla ice-cream can be swirled with an assortment of mix-in ingredients (think Fruity Pebbles, Flake, Milo, Kinder Bueno and even seasonal fruits) and then topped with the likes of sprinkles, crushed nuts, honeycomb and a saucy drizzle, if desired. Every month Mr Treat will offer a special cookie and ice-cream creation, but we reckon dessert die-hards will want to pencil in visits on a more regular basis.

Mr Treat is now open to the public and is open until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. Head to the Stumble Guide for operating hours and other important details.
