Inner-city wanderers can rest and relax within the rustic surrounds of Edward Street’s newest resident, which dishes up hefty portions of hearty Euro-style cuisine.

Daniel Whiffen and Gerry Murphy are two long-time friends and business partners that have brought their hospitality experience and love of European cuisine to Brisbane’s CBD, opening Mr Edward’s Alehouse & Kitchen this week. Expanding their portfolio, which also includes Harrigan’s Drift Inn on the Gold Coast, Daniel and Gerry have crafted a rustic and warm eatery and bar that focuses on good food, great beer and excellent service. Mr Edward’s Alehouse & Kitchen has partnered with Coopers Brewing to stock the beverage business’s entire range, from popular varieties on tap to exclusive, limited edition kegs – namely the 2015 Vintage Ale. The bar also stocks local craft brews from Newstead Brewing and Bacchus Brewing, as well as a select range of cocktails and wines.

Manning the kitchen is Irish ex-pat Mick Garry, who has crafted a menu that covers a broad spectrum of European cuisine using seasonal ingredients sourced fresh daily. Standouts include the beef cheek and mash, seared scallops, superfood salads, slow cooked pork and much more. The kitchen will remain open until late, catering to hungry patrons who are after some good food well into the evening. Seating extends to the bar, where diners can discuss the finer points of beer and food partnering with the knowledgeable staff. A street front coffee machine will dispense The Establishment coffee, juices and fresh baked scones, muffins and Coopers beer-infused banana bread to passing foot traffic from 7:00 am. The coming weeks will see the space include a new roof for the outside dining area, a greenery wall will be installed along the façade and a charcuterie fridge will be added near the kitchen, stocking a moreish selection of cured meats and cheeses which will be available for snacking in the near future.
