Paddington’s Montrachet opens especially for Bastille Day

Saturday July 14 marks a day when it’s more than appropriate to pull out your red, white and blue, and preferably don a beret, a fake moustache and an atrocious French accent. Yes it’s Bastille Day (or La Fête Nationale) this weekend and there are celebrations to be had amongst Brisbane’s foodie community.

While it may be a day now soaked in wine and French pastry, the event was intended as a celebration of the uprising of France as a modern nation. On the morning of July 14 1789, the Bastille fortress prison was stormed, symbolising the end of the long-running French Revolution. While we are sitting abruptly on the other side of the world, away from The Seine and Eiffel Tower, we do have enough French fare and Francophiles to put on a pretty good spread for ourselves.

Celebrate over a meal or two at Paddington restaurant Montrachet. Typically open for lunch Monday to Friday and dinner Monday to Thursday, Bastille Day will see Montrachet open its doors for this Saturday only. There are two multiple-course sittings to choose from – an early dinner at 6:00 pm or a little later at 8:30 pm, but booking is essential as places tend to fill quickly.

C’est Bon in Woolloongabba will also be toasting the occasion with a specially crafted menu to entice Frenchies and lovers of French culture alike. A delicious set dinner of four courses is on offer, exploring a range of indulgent French food, including escargot.
