Momo Chicken & Beer brings its finger-lickin’ goods to Garden City

When it comes to perfect pairings, the union of crispy fried chicken and ice-cold draught beer is hard to beat. This applies double when the fried chicken is served Korean style. The controlled collision of seasoning, sauce, crunch and heat for this kind of golden, perfectly non-greasy piece of poultry is a snack-food marvel, and the malty bliss of a beer on the side is the proverbial icing on the cake. Momo Chicken & Beer is one of Brisbane’s biggest proponents of this culinary combo, and mere months after unveiling its Elizabeth Street food hall, the cluckin’ crew has opened up another location in the heart of Westfield Garden City.

The mid-year opening of Momo Chicken & Beer on Elizabeth Street turned a lot of heads, but while guests were flocking in droves to sample the crispy helpings of chook, the Momo team was already crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s on an agreement for a third location. The team at Westfield had approached the Momo crew earlier in the year, with the intention of bringing the brand to one of its major shopping centres. A space within Westfield Garden City (near Timezone) proved most appealing, as plans were underway to transform the interior tenancies located at the entry to the centre’s outdoor dining precinct into a late-night foodie hub for shoppers and patrons of the nearby cinema complex. An eight-week fit-out has resulted in an eye-catching aesthetic, with a multicoloured exterior shielding a neon-light dining space for 98 guests. Booth seating for large groups is plentiful, with dimmable lights installed to boost the ambience as trade inches later into the night.

Garden City’s Momo Chicken & Beer offers the same stellar array of fried chicken as its other locations, featuring piles of boneless and with-bone chicken sets in a variety of flavours (honey chicken, buffalo, sweet and spicy, cheese and very, very hot). While Momo’s burger selection hasn’t come across to Garden City, the location does boast a menu of appetising lunch specials, offering up dishes including giant chicken cutlets, chicken and kimchi fried rice, spicy stir-fried noodles, Korean pancakes and balsamic chicken salad. Rounding out the food menu is a selection of noodle, rice, hot-pot dishes and sides. As for the drinks, frothy beers are still a specialty. The Garden City location boasts Two Suns –a beer made collaboratively by Japanese and Australian brewers – on tap alongside other bottled beer varieties, soju, rice wine and more.

The coming months will reportedly see Momo Chicken & Beer at Garden City kickstart some themed nights and a late-night menu before being joined by new vendors, including a karaoke spot! For now, you can get your chicken fix at Momo Chicken & Beer daily. Head to the Stumble Guide for more details.
