It’s pretty hard to resist fried chicken. You know when it’s coming – that delicious intoxicating scent wafts through the air, a smell unlike any other, beckoning you towards the golden crispy goodness that awaits. If your stomach isn’t rumbling at that thought, then it might be time for you to leave this page. Because the next couple of paragraphs – and Brisbane City’s newest eatery – are dedicated to finger-lickin’ Korean fried chicken.

True fried-chicken lovers will no doubt already be familiar with Runcorn’s Momo Chicken & Beer in Brisbane’s south – it’s arguably some of the best Korean fried chicken in town. But for many of us chicken lovers, Runcorn isn’t exactly central, which is why we are welcoming news of Momo Chicken City with open arms. The eatery has just opened its doors on Albert Street, tucked away below street level near the corner of Mary Street. Momo’s fit-out is simple – white subway-tiled walls, exposed bulbs, K-pop film clips rolling on the television. But you needn’t concern yourself with aesthetics. The real star here is the chicken.

Momo truly is chicken city. There are ten kinds of fried chicken to choose from, from classic and marinated pieces through to boneless sets with a variety of seasonings and ‘fire chicken’ with the choice of hot or very hot, and each generous serve comes with hand-cut potato chips (we’re not talking fries here – think giant salted Kettle chips). The love of the chick continues through to meals as well, with the likes of giant chicken cutlets, chicken noodle soup, chicken curry and chicken salad also featuring on the menu. If you need sides look to kimchi pancakes or okonomiyaki, and wash it all down in true Korean style with a cold beer from the tap, Korean rice wine or a hit of soju.
