Anyone that’s travelled to South Korea will tell you its famed chicken-and-beer halls are a must-try for any tourist looking to get a taste of the country’s crackling nightlife. Brisbane’s food scene is fortunate enough to be flush with fantastic Korean-style fried-chicken spots and Momo Chicken & Beer might be one of Brisbane’s best. The long-running concept has just opened a brand-new site at Westfield Chermside, bringing with it a stacked menu of finger-licking fare and an exciting new bar element.

In 2019, Momo Chicken & Beer opened two new locations – a humungous grungy flagship launched on Elizabeth Street in July, followed by a slick modern-industrial satellite site at Westfield Garden City in October. This quick growth spurt seemed to indicate that the team behind the Korean-inspired chicken and beer concept was gearing up for a city-wide takeover, but then came 2020. Although forced to pump the breaks like everyone else, a year of treading water has seemed to only slightly hamper the Momo momentum, as Wednesday June 16 saw the official launch of Momo Chicken & Beer’s new location (its fourth) at Westfield Chermside – continuing the brand’s savvy strategy of planting its flag at Brisbane’s bustling shopping hubs. The team has secured some prime real estate on the fringe of the centre’s outdoor dining precinct, just a stone’s throw from the likes of Betty’s Burgers and Little Singapore.

An eye-catching modern-industrial fit-out (executed by Tonic Projects) has been applied to the 210-sqm space, with a palette of materials featuring a mix of brick, concrete, timber and leather (plus a mural or two for good measure). Momo’s two interior dining spaces are separated by a striking central bar and every table is equipped with touch screens for express ordering. Long-time fans of Momo’s offering will be pleased as punch to hear that the existing menu – its piles of bone-in and boneless fried chicken, crispy and grilled-chicken burgers, salads, rice bowls, curries, hot-stone bibimbap, noodle dishes and bubbling hot-pots – is also available here in its entirety. It’s over at bar where guests will discover the new elements, headlined by a range of cocktails and mocktails. Tropical-inspired sips such as pineapple-infused Junebugs, an assortment of highballs (lemon, blueberry, watermelon, grapefruit and lychee), pina coladas and the signature Momojito will help wash down any sized banquet, but Korean beers, soju and ginger beer is also available, if desired.

Momo Chicken & Beer is now open at Westfield Chermside. Head to the Stumble Guide for operating hours and contact details.
