Coffee aficionados take note – this new vibrant java joint sources the finest beans directly from Colombia and roasts them here in Brisbane for locals to savour.

Having been involved with hospitality and coffee in some form over a 15 year period, Calder Dryden knows more about the industry than most ever learn – meaning that any coffee business he’s involved in is worth checking out. Alongside Simon and Mia Mylonas, Calder has opened Microlot Coffee House, a bright and welcoming cafe that serves some of the best caffeine in town. The trio overhauled the space to show off spectacular timber floors, crisp white walls, sturdy wooden furnishings and plenty of coffee apparatus. Microlot aims to remove the pretension surrounding coffee appreciation, making a welcoming spot for people to experiment with different blends (which rotate every three to four days) and brewing techniques such as cold drip and filter varieties.

Where the term single origin refers to the farm a particular coffee bean originates from, the term microlot extends to the best batch of beans on the farm. Calder part-owns a farm in Tolima, Colombia, which he visits twice a year to source the beans for Microlot’s house blend, while also gathering some of the finest batches from other notable growers. At the end of February, Microlot Coffee House will also serve a cool, clean menu of wholesome dishes including white bean and snow pea tendril salad with black sesame crusted egg, sticky plum pork, gruyere cheese and fried eggs on brioche and sourdough pancakes with charred peach cheeks and vanilla bean labneh. Pastries, banana bread and raspberry blondies are already available. Microlot’s roasted beans are also available for retail purchase. For more location details and opening hours, head to the Stumble Guide.
