Pavement Whispers: Mademoiselle, a new French brasserie from the team behind Rise Bakery, is en route to Portside Wharf

After spoiling the people of Portside with a decadent champagne bar and an always-packed patisserie cabinet, the Rise Bakery team has set its sights on a new venture. Restaurateurs Harry Ohayon and Maxime Bournazel are set to apply some French flair to a second venue at the precinct, Mademoiselle. Taking over a 245-sqm site at the riverside hub, Mademoiselle will pay homage to beloved brasserie traditions with a tight menu of French cuisine and a touch of chic design. Portside Wharf has already announced a fleet of new openings this year with gastropub Portside Social, American-themed sports bar The Ballpark and New York-inspired burger spot Dumbo all set to join the precinct before the year’s end. Mademoiselle marks the latest addition to this list, as Rise Bakery’s Harry Ohayon and Maxime Bournazel seek to bring their passion for French cuisine to a lunch and dinner service.

When Rise Bakery expanded up north and opened its first Brisbane location at Portside Wharf last year, it quickly won the hearts of local francophiles. With a stacked menu of buttery viennoiseries, crusty sourdough loaves and picture-perfect patisserie treats, the boulangerie quickly made a name for itself amidst Brisbane’s bakery scene.

Mademoiselle intends to capture the same essence, providing Brisbane with an authentic slice of France from the riverside location. On the menu, Harry and Maxime have teased timeless French cuisine with a modern inflection. Diners can expect an array of brasserie staples like rotisserie meats, gourmet salads and daily chef specials.

The duo has snagged Sydney-based architect Tom Mark Henry and local construction crew Lowry Group to design and fit-out the venue, which is set to imbue Portside Wharf with a healthy dose of art de vivre. Think: bistro-style staples like marble and stone, complemented by bold colour palettes and cosy booth seating as well as 100 sqm of alfresco dining space.
