Lost Boys organic cafe opens in Fortitude Valley

Let’s face it – sometimes we all wish we could fly to Never Land and never, ever grow up. To escape the real world for a little while, step inside the magical interior of Ann Street’s Lost Boys cafe.

Tucked inside an unassuming building on the corner of Ann Street and Bakery Lane , Lost Boys is not your average Fortitude Valley dining spot. From the moment you step inside you are transported to a space usually reserved for fairy tales, with trees sprouting from the floor and a leafy canopy lining the ceiling, complete with a wooden rope bridge connecting the branches. Pots of greenery dot the tables, each one identified by a different childhood storybook. Owner Pixie designed and created the dream-like interiors herself (with the help of a few clever friends and family), wanting to create her own Peter Pan-worthy space – hence the name Lost Boys.

The cafe strives to use only certified-organic, 100 per cent natural and locally produced ingredients, as well as ensuring it is carbon neutral. That said, Lost Boys uses biodegradable packaging, makes almost everything in-house and is completely vegetarian. Open for breakfast, lunch and snacks, you can select from such treats as toasted wheat-free muesli and corn fritters stacks in the morning, or opt for delicious beetroot bruschetta on crusty marinated garlic and olive oil-infused sourdough, or the house-made veggie burger with caramelised onion relish, marinated sweet potato, cheese and fresh rocket come lunchtime.

As well as coffee, tea and organic juices, you can indulge in a special iced beverage, choosing from tall iced coconut coffee or chocolate topped with ice-cream, or a tall iced blueberry and pomegranate tea, infused with cold-pressed green apples and topped with berries and mint. Lost Boys also sells ‘Happy Thoughts’ water, with $1 from every bottle donated to aid a nominated cause or charity. As part of the cafe’s Happiness Project, the water also helps to foster positive thinking, in conjunction with other cafe initiatives including the Happy Thoughts wall and special positive notes served up with each order from the kitchen.

As the first new addition to the currently developing Bakery Lane, Lost Boys will be looking to extend its hours in the near future to open as a bar on Friday and Saturday nights, and extend to a courtyard behind the cafe once the construction of Bakery Lane is complete.
