New village bar Loft opens in West End

A new bar is set to grace West End this weekend, opening above old brother Archive Beer Boutique. Self-described as a New York-style village bar, Loft is a cocktail and wine lounge, replacing rowdy previous upstairs tenant Uber.

A relaxed and considered space, Loft sees exposed brick fraternising with tones of jade and olive, while wooden stools, plush lounges and leather club chairs make up the seating inside. The DJ decks are positioned in front of a library of antiquarian books, while cacti are dotted about the space. Hanging greenery creates fluidity between inside and the outside deck, which is set above bustling Boundary Street (and lively Archive below).

With concoctions inspired by the poisons of choice of wayward artists of the past, the cocktail menu is divided into Fresh, Smoked, Carbonated and Punch varietals. The Pimm’s and Roses Punch with Campari, Vermouths, spices, ginger beer and fancy sugar will quench a summer afternoon thirst, while the Oh My Colada of Havana 7 Rum, Havana 3 Rum, pineapple, almond and cream will transport sippers to a seaside oasis.

Lightly chilled wines meet craft beers courtesy of the troopers downstairs, while the American-food influence continues with Pork Sliders served with spicy coleslaw among the tasting plates. The gourmet temptations continue with the Crepe & Confit Duck Wraps with Hoisin and Sprout Salad, while the share plates see a classic Ploughman’s mingling with a Seafood Platter of king prawns, seared scallops, pancetta, and beetroot and labna salad.
