Loaded Food Co. brings its brand of nourishing nosh to Newstead
When starting a new day it’s a good idea to load up on the necessities – a good cup of coffee, a nutritious lunch to fuel you up at lunchtime, and words of encouragement to see you through the day. For a few years Ashgrove locals have been getting all that and more from Loaded Food Co. on Waterworks road, and now there’s a new location that can give you all that and more. Loaded Food Co. is putting pep in the step of Newstead locals with its new pit stop, offering coffee, salads, snacks and smiles – as well as some more plans in the works that have us drooling with anticipation.
Rise and shine Newstead residents – Loaded Food Co. opened its second location to the public on Wednesday October 11 and it is already causing an excited stir. Loaded Food Co. sits within Newstead Studios on Ross Street, the owners of which approached Loaded’s Katie and Simon Townson with the idea of installing a second location within the crisp interior of the multi-faceted creative space. Here’s the deal for the uninitiated – every morning Loaded Food Co. makes its range of wraps, salads, breads and snacks at the Ashgrove location’s commercial kitchen before bringing the goods over to Newstead. There is no set menu – the selection changes daily (you can see what’s cooking on Loaded’s Instagram) but the new arrivals make visiting regularly a worthwhile exercise. Meatballs, wagyu beef cheeks, quiches, brisket sandwiches and more are just some of the morsels popping up day to day, plus Loaded serving coffee by Q Roasters and fresh acai bowls, with smoothies and juices coming soon.
The biggest piece of news is that Loaded Food Co. in Newstead will soon be opening at night as a fully-fledged bar. Following the same fluid approach to its drinks as its food, Katie and Simon will be whipping an ever-changing selection of cocktails, paired with a curated range of wines and off-the-wall beers from boutique breweries. The bar will also serve up a range of snacks from marinated olives and charcuterie boards to some truly enthralling ideas, including house-made breads lovingly lathered with varieties of freshly churned butter (smoked, charcoal and Jersey cream butter, for example), coated in moreish fat drippings and served with gourmet potato and gravy. Patrons will be free to wander the Newstead Studios space, taking in the artwork adorning the walls while sipping and snacking.
