The Superthing team opens Little Red Bakery, a loaf-slinging cafe in Red Hill
If you’ve popped into Little Red Providore on Windsor Road lately, you’ll have spied an increased amount of baked goods going around. There’s a good reason for that – the crew behind Superthing, NYC Bagel Deli and Cordelia Sourdough Bakehouse has taken over the venue, adding in a brand-new bakery element to go with its already stellar brunch offering. Here’s the scoop …
Eddy Tice and Ania Kutek have opened plenty of venues, but they’ve never taken over an existing one. That said, the couple – whose hospitality portfolio includes NYC Bagel Deli, Superthing and Cordelia Sourdough Bakehouse – have never been shy about seizing an opportunity when one presents itself. So when Little Red Providore, a beloved cafe housed in a character-filled corner store building on Windsor Road in Red Hill, announced it was for sale, Eddy and Ania decided it was a perfect fit for their ever-growing family of carb-centric concepts. “We had supplied Little Red Providore from the get go – I think they were one of our first customers for wholesale bagels,” says Eddy. “We always liked the location and we really liked the building. When we saw it up for sale we thought it would be a shame to see it potentially close.”
So, Eddy and Ania bought Little Red. They’ve been running it for about two months now, keeping things pretty much the same as always while they plotted their next steps. Their plans officially bore fruit last week when Little Red Providore transformed into Little Red Bakery, a cafe and bakery hybrid that sees the venue’s original brunch menu bolstered with the addition of pastries, bagels and bread. A quick reno saw the original service counter and kitchen modified to house a new loaf and pastry display, as well as a gleaming new Victoria Arduino Black Eagle coffee machine pouring brew from Allpress Espresso. Aside from some new signage and extra seating along the front exterior, much of Little Red’s existing cottage-style aesthetic remains. If dining in, guests can spread out across two internal levels or soak up the ambience in the tranquil courtyard out the back.
Little Red Bakery is now stocking freshly baked goodies seven days a week, with an assortment of sweet and savoury pastries from Superthing, bags of NYC Bagel Deli bagels and European-style loaves from Cordelia readily available to nab and take away. “Little Red was obviously serving a lot of our things already, but we thought maybe we could push it more and do a bigger range,” Eddy adds. “Everything here is made fresh by one of our stores and it’s all shipped here in the morning.” Brunch is still king, however – you’ll still be able to devour dishes like Little Red Providore’s breakfast baos, but there are some new options too, including acai bowls and Superthing’s crowd-favourite croissant eggs Benedict.
