If you believe that eating properly means having tasty and healthy food, then you might want to jump on board the kale train.

Termed the ‘new beef’ and the ‘queen of greens’, kale is an ancient, humble and supremely nutritious vegetable that has become the source of much debate of late – to cook or not to cook, pulverised in a smoothie or simply fresh. Byron Bay duo Olga and Alexander Komarov from Komarov Foods moved to Australia in 2012 after five years in America, where they got hooked on healthy lifestyles and vibrant food. The duo found the variety in Australia was lacking compared to the States, so they setup Komarov Foods.

Komarov Food’s first product to market, kale chips, are a crunchy healthy snack made from certified-organic locally grown kale. In three delicious flavours of cashew vegan cheese, garlic and spices, and onion and dill, these snacks are organic, raw, vegan and fill you with energy. These kale chips have the added benefit of not being roasted but dehydrated instead. As they are neither baked nor fried, the chips are alive products with virtually all nutrients and enzymes preserved. In other words they are almost as good as fresh kale … bonus!

Second to market by Komarov Foods is the Pimp My Salad range – one spoon will turn an ordinary salad into something magical. Again using all certified-organic ingredients, never baked or roasted and the seeds are soaked (activated) and sprouted to help digestion and to activate enzymes. Flavours such as kale sprinkles with cashew vegan cheese and garlic, sunflower seed sprinkles and super seed sprinkles will spruce up the simplest of salads.

Pick up a selection of the Komarov Foods range at the Bootleg Breads stall at the Davies Park Market at West End.
